Can i just start off and say, anyone who spams this thread will be reported and i'll do everything in my power to get a proper ban put in place.
From http://www.sputnikmusic.com/bands.php?bandid=179Sputnik Music
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a band born and bred in LA. School friends Anthony Kiedis (vox) and Mike Balzary (Flea), Jack Irons (drums) and Hillel Slovak (Guitar) formed a band that quiickly became popular on the LA live circuit for their raucous, lively and often naked performances.
After three reasonably successful albums (RHCP, Freaky Styley and Uplift Mofo), Hillel died of a heroine overdose (drugs being an issue that had and would plague the band for years). Jack left, Kiedis went into rehab.
Several years later they got back together, recruiting long time fan John Frusciante, an eighteen year old funk master who's fast paced playing and mature riff work would take their 1989 album Mother's Milk to the mainstream audience. Chad Smith also joined the ranks as drummer.
The 90's marked a decade of change, peaks and troughs for the Chilis. Their masterwork Blood Sugar Sex Magik was massive, too massive for John (who had always wanted the Chilis to stay true to their roots), he left the band for a full time career as a heroine addict. The 1995 album with Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro in the guitar slot was successful at the time, but is now recognised (quite wronly IMO) as a poor move for the Chilis, moving to a heavier and more guitar oriented metal.
Frusciante (clean after nearly dying many times) was drawn back to the band and in 99 they created their most successful, more mainstream rock album Californication. By The Way followed in 2002, showing off a more mature and experimental side of the Chilis.
The ever lasting chemistry between the guitarrists of the Chili's and virtuoso bass of Flea, coupled with the boistrous lyrics of Kiedis and the pounding rythms of Chad Smith have made a plethora of great songs and the Chilis are now one of the biggest stadium acts in the world. Plus they ****ing rule!

It's released most places on May 9, I think, so there's still some time left before we get hold of it. I'm not sure it's ever been formally delayed, but I know that a lot of people expected it last year, and it will have been 4 years since By The Way when we finally get hold of it.
Oh good. I can't wait.

I used to be really into the Chillies in grade 8 or so, but then I met the Beatles, and the Chillies got put in the background. They are a good band I just don't listen to them much anymore. If the new album is good maybe that will re-spark my interest in them.

Yeah, that was one of my least favourite songs from By The Way. It just kind of flops along and doesn't really go anywhere. I'm not really sure why they released it as a single, to be honest, given how many good songs there were on the album.

Not many bands can pull off a double album, and I don't know if the Chili Peppers can really do it, to be honest.
They aren't releasing it as a double album anymore. There's going to be something like 13 different version of the cd, all the same except for a single track. The extra track you get depends on what store you buy it from.

I think the Chili Peppers rule. Arguably one of the most innovative bands of the last twenty-five years.
I agree that John is really the heart of the band right now, even though it's always a group effort. He can create these explosive, funky guitar riffs in Give It Away then beautiful, melodic guitar pieces like in Scar Tissue.
I'm definitely looking forward to their album. If it's like their more recenty, melodic work, that'd be cool, but it would be really awesome if they went back to their super funky roots.

I wouldn't really consider myself a huge fan of RHCP, as I don't have any of their albums or anything. But their singles always amaze me, usually very fresh sounding and different from everything else. New music always seems to be refreshed a little when the Chili's come out with a new album IMO.

i have to say that i dont think John is the full power of the band, yes he IS the most creative and all, but he needs flea most of the time to help guide him through, thats why he writes most of the music to the songs with flea sittin' beside him, Chad is as usual drummin' away, doin his job and AK is strolling through with the band, letting John lead, but all togehter, they wouldn't make a worthy band without everyones input, even if some put in more than other members at this point in time.
Shaft!
02-04-2006, 09:25 AM
I'm not sure if he'd need Flea, to be fair. His solo work, I've heard, was very good and Flea had no part of it.
I'm not entirely sure I could specify who is the "leading" force behind the Chilis. I think it's a joint op. between Anthony, Flea, and John sometimes. There are songs where each member has their time to shine, so it's sort of hard for me to tell.
Blizzink
02-04-2006, 09:40 AM
Hmm, if you wanna get an idea on how the recording process goes, read AK's autobiography. I'm not done reading it yet, but he mentions how when John joined the band, he could just come up with any random verse, and John could write music for it.

Ouch. I wouldn't call ripping off Gang of Four, The Jam and Parliament Funkadelic - and then later the Pixies - very innovative.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Last year, Perry Farrell was just looking to re-establish the good name of his Lollapalooza festival. This year, with a successful run at Chicago's Grant Park already under his glittery belt, he was clearly looking to go for style points. So you can understand why.
As he strode into the press room of the posh Four Seasons Hotel to announce the lineup for Lollapalooza 2006. After all, he's put together a group of artists with style to spare.
Kanye West, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Death Cab For Cutie and Queens of the Stone Age are among the more than 70 acts tapped to perform at this year's Lollapalooza, returning to Chicago August 4-6 (see "Lollapalooza Returning As A Three-Day Festival").
"...what we've ended up with is a beautiful, amazing thing."
This year's "beautiful, amazing thing" is an eclectic mix of hip-hop (West is joined on the bill by Common, British grime MC Lady Sovereign and Gnarls Barkley -- the collaboration between Cee-Lo and producer Danger Mouse), rock (the Flaming Lips, the Shins, Jack White's Raconteurs, Panic! At the Disco)
More artists will be announced in the coming weeks, with organizers promising a grand total of more than 130 acts on 8 stages.
Last year's Lolla -- billed as a return to basics after an ambitious, coast-to-coast touring fest was canceled due to poor ticket sales in 2004 -- was a tremendous success, packing more than 65,000 fans into Grant Park.
"We knew going in last year that it was going to be a challenge, but we pounded away and ended up with something great. But I knew that the formula we had would work, and it did," Farrell said. "And now, the goal this year is to build on it. I like the idea of always expanding, of adding new wings. We don't want anyone to come to this year's Lollapalooza and be like 'Oh, I've seen this already.' "
Tickets for Lollapalooza are now on sale through Lollapalooza.com. A three-day pass costs 130.00.

For the first time ever, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have released their catalogue for download. Starting today around the world, and tomorrow in North America, the band's entire catalog is available at iTunes and your favorite digital retailers worldwide.
With the click of a mouse, you can download Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication, and By The Way from your favorite digital download store. Also available will be the earlier albums:Mother's Milk, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Freaky Styley and the bands self-titled first album, The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The band went into the vaults and pulled out some songs you might not have heard before. Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication, and By The Way will each have two or three bonus tracks. These deluxe versions will be available at iTunes exclusively in the U.S., and at major digital retailers around the world. You must purchase the full album to get the bonus tracks.
Anthony told Rolling Stone, "As we're going back through old leftovers, we're discovering some of the things we left off CALIFORNICATION are as strong as anything on the album."
Fans purchasing these albums on iTunes around the world also have the option of buying and receiving additional bonus materials, including music videos, full album artwork, and 'making of' mini-documentaries in addition to the bonus music. Purchase the full album to receive all these extras.
Stay tuned for much more...

this iTunes bullshit is one of the gayest things i've ever heard. bonus tracks that you can only get when you buy the whole album. surely its the more seasoned fans that are going to be more interested in hearing the bonus tracks, and its pretty likely they're the ones that are going to have the albums already. they're just doing themselves out of money. the percentage of people who are going to pay £8 for an album they've already got is tiny, whereas i'm sure no-one would object to the usual thing of paying 79p for an individual song. tossers.

Although hopefully this double would be amazing, a treble would of been better IMO.noooo way! I can't stand double albums as it is in general, There is always bound to be loads of filler. a treble album would have been too much for me to handle, and probably really sub-par in places.
KRASH
03-23-2006, 02:38 PM
the reason i dont like double albums is cause a lot of the bands put what you see as better songs scattered through the CD's so it makes you listen more to both instead of one, i suppose it can be good and bad in some ways

check it out, its in there somewhere, http://www.redhotchilipeppers.com/news/news.php?uid=151
Kiedis was saying about how the story about the girl, Dani who was featured in By The Way, is in Dani California, where she from what i have heard commits suicide, he also spoke about Californication - ...A teenage bride with a baby inside.......Destruction leads to a very rough road, But it also breeds creation, And earthquakes are to a girl’s guitar, They are just another good vibration... and how he realises he's been singing about the same same girl for 7 years, from Californication, By The Way, and now Stadium Arcadium, Dani.
any thoughts?

- About Wet Sand: "About a complicated, dysfunctional woman I've fallen in love with"
- About Charlie: "more profoundly funky than anything we've done in a while"

John isn't a great guitarist but the band gels well when he's around
What does everybody think of their new single? Dani California
you can stream it for free at www.redhotchilipeppers.com
I think it's good, but its no comparison to some of their earlier stuff (from BSSM for example)
John is a great guitarist and the band gels well wheFix'd.
People can often criticise John because he doesn't do anything to flashy, but he plays with feeling and has created some of the most memorable guitar parts of a decade.

ok i suppose that's a valid argument, as it is down to opinion, but he isn't technically great
as a singer i thing he's brilliant at adding emotion with his harmonies
also, Kyle are you seeing them at reading?

also, Kyle are you seeing them at reading?Yeah he's a great singer too. You're right that he's not technically amazing, but he's not bad, he plays some more flashy stuff live...without going over the top. I prefer his rythem playing more than his lead though really.
Yeah I'm seeing them at Reading, are you? I think theres gonna be quite a few MX'ers down at the Madjeski.

Ye, i play bass, and my friend who's a real good guitarist says he likes his rythm playing but he does detest his lead work..
I dont hate his lead work but on recordings i think they're almost too commercial, in a way, in the recent records theyve made anyway
Im seeing them at earls court on the Monday
Maybe Manchester on one of the days
and Coventry
so definately 2 maybe 3 times
Thats quite a spread accross the country!

that's awful. the guitar's out of tune, and he's playing the wrong 4th chord in the sequence of 4 in the verses. his attempts at the fills during the verses are terrible too. as are what are supposed to be unison bends after the first chorus. his biggest problem is that he's playing what he thinks is there, rather than listening to what is actually there. not that i'm an advocate of learning and copying songs note for note...

A lot of people apparently don't like it too much, but to each their own.

There's a few that I think are supposed to be a bit ambiguous, as I think they're representing particular era's in the history of music, as opposed to a few of the others which are clearly specific bands (e.g Misfits, Nirvana)
1 - Elvis
2 - Beatles
3 - Jimi Hendrix / Cream / general psychedelic
4 - Parliament / Funkadelic
5 - Iggy Pop / Bowie
6 - Sex Pistols / The Clash
7 - The Misfits
8 - Poison

I'm gonna try and hold out, and not listen to any of the songs till the cd comes out. It's gonna be awesome, and I don't want my first impression to be some crappy leak, I wanna wait for the real thing, as hard as that is.

the b-sides to the dani california single are ****!
anthony was definitely wrong when he said all 38 songs recorded were of equal quality
lets hope SA has alot of better songs and a minimum of fillers

Well let's hope the B-sides aren't representations of what's to come on the album.

It's going to be tough for them not to add fillers to the album with so many songs...

I've just watched the video to Dani California, I've got to say I liked it. I wasn't a fan of By The Way, and this seems like a step back in the right direction for me.
