Hi! I've decided to get my first double bass pedal! :) I'm an intermediate player and I've never played double bass before. I think it will make my practise a bit more interesting and fun or at least I will have one more reason to practise more! I've narrowed my list of pedals into this:

Pearl P-122TW 185€ 223$ 128GBP
TAMA HP200TWB 215€ 259$ 148GBP
YAMAHA DFP-8110 Strap Drive 239€ 288$ 165GBP
DW 7002PT 255€ 307$ 176GBP

If you could tell me which one of these pedals has good response and durability or just tell me which one of these you would buy, I would much appreshiate it!

Thanks! :chug:

Go with the Iron Cobra...you'll love how much you can customize every setting available on the pedal to make it EXACTLY how you want it to be

When it comes to pedals it's all personal preference, therefore I suggest trying them out and if that isn't possible, read all of the reviews and features...

No, I can't try them out, my local store is too small to have them on display... I've read reviews for all of them and I'm still lost... You are right though... the gap between them is too small, it's all about personal taste or choosing the right one by luck... crap.

DDDDDDDDWWWWWWWW 777777777770000000000000000000000000022222!!!!

If you don't get it I will have to hurt you.

A lot.

In special places.

Also, I just figured out how to adjust the chain link, so now the pedal is lower (beater angle the same! w00t!) and soooooooooooooooooooooo comfy it isn't even funny.

Go for the DW, and then put the Smaller Beaters in it, Alot of people say iron cobras are faster because they play the DW's with the HUGE stock beaters that come on them, vs. the cobra's that have a beater about the size of a 50 cent piece, and as thick as a standard pencil.. so about 1 lb vs the dw stock 4 lb, think about that... I had the 5002's and the 7002's at one time, and I've not been been satisfied with any other pedal besides DW's. 9002 is on it's way to my place now...

Just get the smaller / lighter beaters if you are looking for speed.

ALSO, I am a firm believer in "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" something isn't more expensive just because it's more expenisive, there are alot of reasons... If any other pedal was the same, wouldn't we just buy the cheaper one?

I actually don't mind the DW beaters, ya know.

I should look into new ones, I guess, but big whoop.

Oh, and whatever you do, don't get that Yamaha one. It doesn't have a full floorplate on the main pedal, and that's a HUGE no-no.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ right there, you need that floor plate, preferably one with vel-cro on it to keep it stuck to the carper that you're playing on.

No way, man. The 7000s own the IC JR.'s, imo.

First of all, the 7000s are DUAL-CHAIN and the Jr.s are SINGLE CHAIN.

XinterluniumX

I've played the ICJrs. I've got to say I like them just about as much as I like sucking hairy balls. ( which would be not very F****** much )

crazyguy832
02-03-2006, 12:28 PM
Dual-Chain... single-chain...

That alone should tell you teh 7000s are better.

XinterluniumX
02-03-2006, 12:36 PM
^^^ not really, you could have one big chain, vs, a dual chain that is actually smaller than the single chain... thus making the single chain better........... ever thought of that????

crazyguy832
02-03-2006, 12:38 PM
o_O

But... it isn't...

The IC Jr. chain is half the size of the 7000 chain.

2 chains smoother than 1. doesnt matter even if ur 1 chain was 6 inches wide

Well... actually, I don't believe that, "you DON'T get what you pay" because you pay a lot for just the "brand name" on your product! The prices are over-rated by the big companies and there is nothing you can do about it!

All I'm saying is that I don't think, products from the same "league", have too many differences to justify their price difference. Take the Pearl and DW pedals from my list. Their price difference is 70€. What extras do you get from DW that cost 70€??? If you can prove that their difference in price is justifiable, I will order the DW pedal immediately! :thumb:

The Pearl is a single-link chain and the DW is a double-chain.

That right there is worth the extra money.

There are undoubtedly others, but I don't have much experience with that Pearl pedal.

Oh, from the look of the picture, it seems as though you can't adjust the chain length on the Pearl. You can do this on the DW7002 (HUGE comfort factor).

I own an Iron Cobra, and it's quite user-friendly. Lots of various settings and such. However, the only double bass pedals I've played on are the Cobra and the DW 5000. I didn't care much for the 5000s, but they're a couple of steps down from what your looking at.

crazyguy832
02-03-2006, 01:54 PM
The Iron Cobra is NOT the IC Jr.

And the 5000s are HIGHER than the 7000s.

It goes 9000 > 5000 > 7000 > 4000

The 5000s are actually DW's best pedal IMO. It goes 4000, 7000, 5000, 9000

out of those get the DW 7002 for sure, but its alot tougher to make reccomendations on the higher up pedals (Iron Cobras, 5000's, eliminators)

OK, I'm still not convinced that these are differences that cost that much but I'll accept it. One thing though... is the double chain and the adjustable chain length and whatever other improvements the DW has, going to be useful for a beginner with double bass play like me? I mean, is DW going to help me learn and improve my double bass play quicker or better than Pearl or it depends on ME, and how I practise? Just a thought...

K i'm a Yamaha whore. The logical answer coming from me would be the yamaha model.

But in this case go with the DW. It's the only one that offers pro options for the price.

It's all on you, man, but for what I do (a lot of heel-toe), the amount of comfort provided by lowering my pedals slightly (one link) is IMMENSE.

I'm talking 150% more comfortable, less strain in the front of your legs, it's just amazing.

Chances are the 7000 has more options, but like I said, I've never tried that Pearl pedal. But dual-chain is 1000x better than single.

iron cobra's own 7002's, but 7002's own IC jr.'s, so I'd go with the 7002.. although DW makes pedals that not everyone likes.. You love it or you hate it.. you can't 'supposebly' love it.. I'd try them out.. if they play alright, get the 7002.. if you don't, get the yamaha pedal.. i think this one also owns the IC jr...
List in order of which I'd choose:
7002
Yamaha
IC jr.
pearl

if you save up money:

DW 9000 (i don't like DW pedals, so i have an IC)
IC
DW5000
Pearl elim
axis (lol yeah, they're superexpensive, but you can't deny they play like a beast xD)

What about those new Trick pedals?

XD

And good choice, Sorgoth. If you don't like them (you will) then just return them or whatnot. I know mine came with a 1-year no questions asked warranty.
