I've been playing around with this tool for the past hour or so and I've edited the string that determines the text on my Start button and compiled the changes. I saved the file as explorer.mod but now I can't figure out how to make the changes take effect. Do I need to execute a run command to activate explorer.mod? If so, how would I go about doing this (other than opening run, I'm not that stupid).

Also, I'm running Windows XP service pack 2 so I edited both strings 87 and 88 but it still isn't working.

Also also, I'm using the Windows classic layout, so does that make a difference at all?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

It works now. Thanks everyone for your help.

The tool had to have salvaged the source file from somewhere. Keep toying with it until you find out the destination of the file it tampered with.

When you edit the strings with res hacker you're editing the explorer.exe file, however, you can't save the modifications as explorer.exe because the explorer is in use. You have to save the compiled data as explorer.mod or something similar. I don't know how to override explorer.exe with the mod file though.

Rats!
