Ok...so as most of you may know, I've been looking forward to a new Pro M kit for quite some time...but lately I've been thinking. Here is what i've been thinking.

Choice #1: Save up for just a little bit more, get the Pro M, then upgrade everything later on...then upgrade the Pro M in about 5 or 6 years.

Choice #2: Spend the money i have now (about $1125) on upgrades like pedals, a ride, some more misc. cymbals and possibly a rack and then later on upgrade to a Pro kit (i'd only need a shell pack).

Help me out guys...I don't know what to do!!!:upset:

id say use that money on a nice double pedal, hihat stand, snare stand, a nice ride cymbal and some stands. Then heads with whatever is left.

Panopticon
02-03-2006, 01:35 AM
yeah...that's what i was planning (since it would save cost of getting a snare in a shell-pack) but that's with the extra money...main concerns as of now are...

22" A Ping Ride
DW5002 Turbo/Yamaha Flying Dragon Direct Drive double pedals
DW5000/High-end Yamaha hat stand
Heads
For the snare im getting a Black Panther Limited Edition Hand-hammered phosphor bronze snare

I would upgrade cymbals to a certain extent, then blow the rest on stocks.

Then save up for a pro kit.

THEN BUY STOCKS!

I highly recommend the 5500td hihat stand. thats a great stand. I have it. ITs nice and smooth. Comes with 2 rods too 1 long and 1 short so you dont have to saw them if you like your hats low and extra rod is coming out. definately replace the ride.

sounds like a good feature seeing as how i play open-handed...

your set looks like its in good shape, so i'd keep that for awhile

replace some of those crappy cymbals...like that scimitar for one

maybe better hardware? a new snare perhaps.

And....some New Beats!

Better toms are only inspiring for a while. You need start investing in the things you will keep for life and use no matter what kit you have. A good snare and set of hats can make even the crappest kit playable for another few years.

Thats definately a good plan, focus on that. Be nice if you could afford a new set of hats to go on your new stand though. Even old grooves suddenly sound better with some pro hats, all the chiks, sizzles and washes all sound like they're meant to and you can articulate little inflections better, and your hats reward you for the effort. I would get them instead of your ride.

Your cymbals are fine. The only one that needs upgrade is the ride. Scimitars are the mother of the ZBT's if I remember correctly. The only good thing those scimitars ever brought out were the china's (and that is because they are so awfull, and there's nothing like a china that sounds like it comes from the depths of hell  )

Next upgrade, I'ld go for a hatstand. Maybe an Iron cobra or something, those things are smooth like massage lotion and sturdy as a tank.

Another thing you need to do is get decent heads (glares at stock heads...), but that should only set you back 80$ or something, so that's no big deal.

All in all, those two upgrades are priority I'ld say (ride cymbal and hat stand).
Save up the rest for a new kit (as in snare, toms, bassdrum).

I don't know what you think of that bassdrum pedal... A friend of mine had some dixon's. Don't know about model etc, but I didn't think they were all bad...

You don't need a rack, that's just wasting money.

And like always, keep an eye out for good second hand gear. You should do that even if you don't need anything new :p

Well here is what I did:

-Christmas 2001= a 5-piece Westbury with bass pedal, hi-hat stand, cymbal stand, 14" Pearl CX300 hi-hats and an 18" crash/ride

-Christmas 2003 = a 20" B8 ride with Trax double braced boom arm with weight stand

-April 2004 = an 18" Sabian AAXplsion crash with a Dixon 2-in-1 double braced stand

-Christmas 2004 = 14" Sabian AAX-Celerator hi-hats and an 8" B8 splash (w/ mount)

-January 2005 = a 15" Sabian AAXtreme china (replaces my Pearl)

-April 2004 = an 18" AA Metal-X crash (w/ mount for my china to be moved)

-Christmas 2005 = a Tama Iron Cobra Power Glide single pedal

(somewhere in there lies many other drum stuff i.e. cowbell, Stick Control, drum stick bag, cymbal case, etc.)

-March 2006 = waits patiently to buy a 5-piece Sonor Force 3005

I suggest buying what you think is right and what you will profit from most later on...

Yeah i didn't so much need to uprgrade my cymbals as i just wanted to get more...lol i know i need a ride...that's the first thing i would get...

I DEFINITELY need a hat stand and pedal (the Dixon is not a good pedal, its starting to oxidize after not even a year.)

Those were the three main things i needed plus a snare stand (which i DESPERATELY need)

Also, heads in Canada cost about 100 bucks for a full set of batters (but that was when i bought hydro's so it may go down). So batters and hydros would be a bit more.

And to Stickface. The hats i have are pro hats (at least i hope so, i paid $245 for them). They are AA Rock Hats...they just dont look like it cuz i took off the logos.

I say go with choice 2 and get better cymbals. Get a new set later when you got good hardcware and shi't like that
