View Full Version : The Wipers
Discuss how underrated they are. I only have 'Youth of America' but I still think they're a great band.

Holy s'hit, i was considering making a thread about them.
I honestly think they're one of the most underappreciated punk bands ever. I've heard their first 3 abums, and each one is outstanding. Over the Edge is my favorite. How do bands like go practically unnoticed, i'll never know.

The less known they are, the cooler they are. You're only ruining your coolness by advertising their existence.
Recommend a track for someone who's never heard of them?

Doom Town. That's my favorite song just now.
I'm considering buying their 3 CD set, which is allegedly very cheap and comprehensive.

You wrote "blank post" so it wasn't blank was it?
The Doom Town intro sounds like a Killers intro. Singing sounds like a Kurt Cobain parody. They're okay, but I don't think they're underrated.

Yeah, this band is good. I think I got some songs off this (http://www.strangereaction.com/) but it may take some time looking around.

It sounds nothing like the Killers at all. And Kurt Cobain was a big fan of the Wipers, he took alot of influence from them, not the other way round.
They were a late 70s - late 90s punk band. I think you'll like them if you're into Husker Du, The Replacements, Wire and Stiff Little Fingers and other such bands.

You people need to learn how to make better ****ing threads.
Especially about bands that people won't know too much about.
I'm not here to get people to like bands. I started the thread cause I was bored, and listening to the Wipers.
Anyways, I ended up getting that compilation on a spur of the moment thing. So I'm psyched.

That's the whole point of making threads...
You're not trying to get us to like bands, but you make threads about bands that no one knows about which ='s no discussion?

So the thread about the absolutely mediocre Bomb the Music Industry gets over twice the amount of replies than a thread about the Wipers?
What a joke.

I have never heard the Wipers, but I do think it's dumb as well. BTMI really isn't anything special.

Probably because they make bad music.

The first three albums are always considered the best, but I personally like Silver Sail a lot, too. It's pretty mellow and slow for the most part. Out of the seven Wipers albums I own, those get played the most.

I really like the Wipers, but never really considered them a "punk" band, more like a proto-grunge band. I have Is This Real? and the Alien Boy EP, which has a lot of the same songs as ITR?. Good, gloomy driving-on-an-interstate-in-a-rain-storm rock.
I think I'm going to listen to them now.

I love this band. I've yet to get any cds, though. They're hard to find. I must thank Kurt Cobain for getting me into all these awesome bands.

I own the box set, and I must say, it was one of the best musical purchases I have ever commited in my life! Such an amazing band, and Greg Sage is a great punk guitarist (oxy-moron?)
