New band questions

Hey, A friend of mine wants to make either a scremo or a death metal like band with me. Personally I'm not a scremo/emo fan in anyway, but making a band is a perfect way to give me something to do when I'm bored.

First off, sound.
I play the guitar and I need to know how to get a good scremo sound. I’ve listened to some scremo bands and they have a very high-heavy sound, like death metal. I'm clueless as to how to get that kind of sound out of my guitar/amp. (ESP M-100FM guitar, Line-6 Spider 2 amp)

Second, techniques and characteristics.
If their is any distinguishing techniques and characteristics of scremo that I should know about, they would help out a lot.

That’s pretty much all I need to know. Add stuff in if i missed anything. This isn’t a big deal band, so don’t tell me anything I would need to know in order to be a professional (purchasing of effect pedals, etc...)

Personally I wouldnt reccomend joining a band whos music you dont like, I joined a death metal band, when the only band like that I ever listened to was vader, after the knovelty of playing a few shows wears off it begins to suck, as for screamo not that I condone any good guitar player choosing that style I see most of the screamo players using sgs , a couple with hollowbodys, just with some distortion, no where close to that of heavier metal bands, just doing powerchords and the occasional little run on one string.

This would be better asked in the guitar forum, but I'll tell you now that scream and death metal actually have very little in common.

However, if you want a really heavy sound on your guitar, tune it down a whole step and scoop the mids on your amp. Not particularly fond of using that myself, but...

I don't know anything about screamo. You should throw in some mad riffs and pinch harmonics and stuff. That would be cool. Try and not jsut use power chords.

Use words like "decay" and "deranged". Any D-E words sound cool when you scream from the bowels of your lungs.
