The Sims 2 problem

please help. i installed S2 today and when i go to play it it says that the direct x 9.0b is not compatable witht his game only 9.0c even though the game installed it for me and also i downloaded 9.0c from the net. so now its not starting up

my old pc was a 1.2ght, and 256 ram
