my moms laptop needs a memory upgrade. i used the crucial system scanner and found out that it uses pc-2700 ram. i found a good deal on ebay for that kind of ram for 2 x 512mb sticks for 13 bucks. the seller i believe is good. do you think my mom needs that much RAM, or is it just overkill?
edit: at the moment, there is 256mb in it

Go for the 2x512Mb deal, you can't have too much RAM.
Plus it's cheap.
(assuming it's working)

no, theres 2 sticks of 512 mb ram in the deal, so theres 1gb in total
edit: so id be replacing the one 256 stick in here with the 2 512's

I'd go for it. Ask the seller some questions though, to see what kind of condition it is in.

you wouldn't be able to use the 256 with the 512 anyway. They have to be identical.

not necessarily. It helps if they are though.

they don't need to be identical, they only need to be identical if you want to use Dual Channel Mode (which the laptop won't support since its PC2700 RAM suggesting its an old non supporting processor anyway)

ah, mobile Sempron, I don't think the 2005 semprons support Dual Channel anyway. Definately not bad though

its not bad, i personally think Acer make decent laptops, my friend's sister has one and looks pretty good. PC magazines give them good results as well.
