IE7 is scheduled to be released to XP customers and not just Vista owners.
This review is currently based on the IE 7 Beta 2 Preview release, which shipped publicly on January 31, 2006. The IE 7 Beta 2 Preview will be very similar to the eventual Beta 2 release, which will be aimed at the general public, so I'll simply update this review (http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/ie7_beta2.asp) later to reflect any changes in the final Beta 2 release.
Preview in XP...

Personally I feel Microsoft is just ripping Mozilla off as expected. Nothing that great so I'll stick to Firefox for now.

Well of course, the Simpsons hit it on the nail (Bill Gates "Oh, I didn't get rich by writing alot of checks!")

Id download it but im running Windows ME so its not even worth it. For those who have it, how much of a step up is it from IE6? And has anyone tried/downloaded Vista yet?

I've been using it since the Beta release day and so far its been great. I love the fuller look... alot easier on the eyes. I have yet to tinker with it, so I can't comment on much more then the visuals, which are really nice.
One of the security features which looks kind of interesting, but have yet to use is the Phish filter, which, from what I can tell has microsoft themselves recieve data about your websites and then they filer/analyze it in determining safety and risk of some sites. Thats just from about a second glance at the description.

Cool, thanks. It looks really great and I like the addition of tabbed browsing. Not liking the look tho.

I love the font used. What is it?
Looks like the one used on Macs. Well, Safari.

I'm grabbing this. Thanks for the info. I'll be rolling when the n00bs are still trying to figure it out when Vista rolls in.

It installed over IE6 for me. You can always just redownload IE6, not that there really is a point considering there is nothing that makes this beta worse than IE6.

I said I liked the addition of tabbed browsing, not "what a cool idea, microsoft are amazing for thinking of that first". I'm just glad it's in IE now as it's the best browser for me.
And again I ask what is the font used?

Opera > FireFox
For the record, Opera had tabs way before Mozilla did.

Who cares?
I think I'll stick to Firefox, it was such a hassle getting used to Firefox after being a long time IE user, so I don't want to try and switch again.

What he said. Also, if I download the update my dad will be like, "What happened to the internet?" and then he'll want the one we had before since he doesn't like change. Yeah, so it would just be a hassle...and a waste of time.

Opera takes almost no effort to get used to.
The differences between Firefox and IE are great. The differences between Firefox and Opera are small, but important.

What are you talking about? It takes like, ten minutes to get used to Firefox after using IE.

It is a rip off, but now all sites I goto work properly. Most sites still don't work with Firefox, especially where plug-ins are involved.
And I know that tabbed browsing had been done ages ago, i'm just saying i'm glad now IE has it as it's the only browser I use. I just don't like the others.

What are you talking about? It takes like, ten minutes to get used to Firefox after using IE. Not at optimal whizz-bang speed. For ages I kept switching back to IE because I found it quicker to use, not in terms of page loading speed, but in terms of general use. In general I just liked it more and had grown accustomed to it.

I like the new IE. It's well designed and pretty streamlined. Reminds me of a FF/Opera hybrid of sorts. It looks good using the Windows "Classic" theme with the slate color. Not a lot of buttons and everything seems well put. I also like the box where the favorites reside, too. And the fact that the toolbar has been done away with and the options put somewhere else. My one gripe is the forward/back buttons are placed too high and I keep going for the favorites menu buttons under it.
It won't stop me from using FF except in those times when there are compatability issues, though. Last year I tried several new browsers and this version of IE beats them all. It's certainly a vast improvement over the last version. Still, no matter what, when going online at home my browser is pretty much FF with the LittleFox theme and that's it. Maybe Opera for a change of pace. I'll be checking out this IE, but I see no reason to switch. It would just seem unnatural.

Just looks like a Firefox and Opera ripoff.
At the end of the day though, Internet Explorer is always going to be the most used browser. If it's already installed when they get the PC then the average internet user makes best with what there is not worrying about downloading alternative browsers.
Apparently you get loads of tracking cookies with Opera, which is why I use Firefox.

I've been using the MSN 8 Beta today. It looks pretty but does hog a lot of RAM. It also seems to be a bit too cluttered which doesn't help. Meh..

I only upgrade MSN when a patch comes out for that version from mess.be to get rid of the ads/other annoying features.

Funnily enough I've just installed the patch for 8 and it runs so much faster and half the crap it had on the screen is gone. Me = happier.

You have just as much control over your cookies in Opera as you do in Firefox. The only thing I can think of that would generate more cookies with opera is the wand function... though I don't think those are cookies.

Sites that never worked with Firefox usually work with Opera. When I used firefox I could never get Videos or Shockwave stuff to work. With Opera I have almost no problem.
I send my roommate video links via aim when he's at classes and he usually can't view them.
I still run 2000, so no IE beta for me. Look, -> :) --- so sad

Hmmm. So Internet Explorer is telling my computer that i'm not connected to the internet, meaning I can't actually use MSN when I now badly need it.
I'm using Firefox at the mo, as luckily it was still installed. I need to get rid of the new Beta as it's only caused trouble. It always does the pop up box saying if I want to work offline or try again. It's not working offline, but some ports are being blocked or something. I ran the MSN wizard connection problem thing, and it said there was something wrong with the ports.
How do I uninstall this Beta version and go back to IE6?
