Is there anything you have to do to enter one of these competitions as I've been working on a song with rapture in it at the moment.

You just need to have the word in your song.

Who actually believes in the Rapture anyway?
And the saved shall ascend to heaven on the wings of dissonant Rap music.

If heaven is all rap music I'd rather go to hell.
I bet hell just has death metal blasting for all eternity. Like Slayer or something. Awwwwwww man.

For a good time go to the thread I made for the song "Cave In" I entered in this challenge and read the jb6oclock dude's response. I'm pretty sure he's slightly retarded.

Hey Dfelon, you've missed the challenge word. Just letting you know considering time to enter is almost up.

So I was watching the FUSE network last night and saw a ....I dont know what you guys call this now, INDIE? band. "Alkaline Three" I think was their name. Anyone knows these guys. They had a good riff going there. Kinda hard to tell from one song though.
sketchyjoe
02-07-2006, 01:23 PM
A lot of people dump on Alkaline Trio for being generic pop-punk but they've made some really good albums. They're a lot wittier and darker than the average pop-punk band.
DFelon204409

I know I didn't use the challenge word and Bob I endorse Alkaline Trio. They may not appeal to you as much because I sense your tastes are more traditional. Listen to their songs "Continental," "Bleeder," "Queen of Pain," and "Private Eye." All very intelligently written. Maybe they're too youthful for you?
Bigbadbob
02-08-2006, 09:07 AM
I will.... They had a serious sound going

Alkaline Trio are generally pretty underrated. Everyone seems to overlook them for one reason or another. But dammit, I just can't get that song "Time to Waste" out of my head!

Yeah, too bad Crimson is a bad bad record.

Meh... they are good. "Stupid kid" is what I've listened to the most, and it's an interesting song. However, I only see pop punk as a fun way to listen to music, and when I don't really want to worry about what music has to mean.
Try not to misunderstand.
...
OK GO. I like FallOut boy too. "sugar we're going down" is interesting.

"time to waste" I think that's what I heard. For some reason that "punk" beat just irratates me. Kid stuff. Everything else I like though.

Thanx.
Not sure if I have read any of his work or not (Dean Young)... I'll have to check him out. Any works in particular that I should check out?? Links??
jurialmunkey
02-15-2006, 03:53 AM
Yeah, I checked out some of Dean Young's work... some of it's really interesting. I guess you mention him because he does alot of things similar to some of the techniques and type of thought flow I use... I guess... I can see comparison anyway.
Have you heard of the band Sikth?? One of my favourites at the moment. "When will the forest speak?" is like Circle Takes The Square
done a-cappella. They do a cover of Tupelo... real messed up.
If you are interested, check out my peice in the S&L Forum...

I love Sikth too but I don't think many people here know them or like them. Oh well their loss. I love the opening track "Scent Of The Obscene"
Followinbg along the topic a poet I've been studying a lot lately is the Australian poet Gwen Harwood. Very good stuff. Here's a link to Barn Owl, one of her fantastic pieces but not her best. http://members.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/barnowl.htm

Following along the topic a poet I've been studying a lot lately is the Australian poet Gwen Harwood.
Are you doing your HSC by any chance??? I had to do her for Advanced English way back in 2001... I thought "In The Park" was great. Subtle simplicity implies a great deal sometimes. I like the one about the kid with Oedipus complex aswell... Can't remember what it is called. Gwen Harwood is great tho... But Sikth is better!!
Edit: This looks like one of those challenges where Dfelon is going to win outright but not vote??? I guess my point is... Hurry the f.ck up and get on with it... I'm craving a word!!!!!! Give me gimme gimme.. fill me fill me,hunger and addiction returning....!!!! *screams like a life-long addict deprived for a day* :amaze:

Iron Maiden is always worth listening to...and George Jones is good for country. try the A$$hole song and the corvette song for a laugh. what kind of music is Premiata Forneria Marconi?
70s prog rock. I'm not a huge fan of them but they have their moments.
