Hey, Im running a fender bassman 300watt valved up head (the same as the sunn model t) through a warwick 4x10 cab, but last night it failed on me. It was my bands last gig, and in soundcheck it just blew out on me, the head seemingly still works fine, but there is hardly anything coming out of the speaker, only a faint high pitched sound when you play. Do you guys reckon the head was too much for it or something? (its a damn massive head with 6 6550 valves in it!) Any help appreciated! Chris xx

Have you checked to see if it the head still works or if the cab still works?

Yeah, the head still works but the cab does not

You probably just blew the speakers... Just be more careful with your next cab/new speakers, and know the ratings of each, and how each company rates their products.

Depends on who you have do it, what speakers you use, etc.
I really doubt he blew the speakers with 300 watts. A warwick 4x10 has a rating of 300 watts RMS (the pro has 800 watts), and even with the amp all the way pegged, i dont think the speakers would have blown. Tubes perhaps?

If the head was clipping though...
Check all the conections in the cab. Make sure no wires came loose or broke. And check the input jack(s).

Try the cab with another head and see what happens.

if you did blow your speakers, and plan to replace them instead of buying another cab, make sure you stuff your cabinet with something like acoustics foam, or even that pink insulation. It'll give your cab a better tone by eliminating some more of the standing waves inside the cab.
also, replacing the speakers is just basic wiring, so you should be able to save in that department too by a little DIY:thumb:

Um, 300 tube watts is just about enough to blow anything at a moderate - high volume.
Try the cab with another head and see what happens.
+1. See what happens then. If you still want to get rid of your head, then do so. You'll end up with enough money for a nice GK or Eden.
Tube watts are the EXACT SAME as any other watt. A watt is a watt is a watt, the tube just changes how they are produced, and sound.
If you dont believe me, find Edgebass, he SHOULD back me up.

Oh this is a tube amp...Herm, ok maybe not clipping then...But it should still be whise to check all the connections in the cab...
