I would just like to know any good indie/alt basslines that are medium or higher in difficulty. Just anything fun to play. Thanks.

P.S. If this is supposed to be in the Indie/alt forum, sorry.

No, it's OK here. :thumb:

Check out anything by the following bands:

The Arcade Fire
The Decemberists
Pitchfork Media
Thursday (more of a blend of old school emo and indie but still good)

Ok cool, just wanted to make sure.

Already way into the Decemberists and Arcade Fire. I don't like Thursday very much. I think I've heard of Pitchfork Media, but I'll check them out.

^ Thursday's a bit too "emo" (although they're not really emo) to be considered indie, but whatever.

Definitely check out Pitchfork Media...awesomeeee band.

The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. are good stuff, too.

Wait, Pitchfork Media is a band? It's not just that pretentious horrible online magazine that pretends to be extremely smart and fails miserably?

My friend burned me a CD with "Pitchfork Media" written on it, so I assume it's the name of the band. I thought that slightly odd, too.

Maybe it's not their name? :amaze:

Yeah I was kinda like, "Wow, who would name their band after them?" But it's a online magazine that writes some of the worst CD reviews I have ever read.

Ridiculously fun to play (as long as you do it the right way).

These Arms Are Snakes has some killer grooves in their stuff.

Riding the Grape Dragon is fun, and the only one I can distinctly remember at the moment. Most of their stuff has a solid line under it, be it synth or organic. Darlings of New Midnight's got a cool line too, I think?

Oh, definately check out Q and Not U, as well. Cool lines hiding in their stuff too.

Check out "Love Will Tear Us Apart" By Joy Division and "This Charming Man" by The Smiths, classic alt. basslines.

Really, any line by Hooky is a beast. Almost every Smiths line is cool too...

Halloween, Alaska - "Call it clear"
Halloween, Alaska - "Tell Me"

Zero 7 - "Home"
Zero 7 - "Look Up"

Thieverary Coporation - "Lebanese Blonde" (I actually stole part of this bassline, and combined it with a Bit Of Jacos Original line and some of my own stuff when i played "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy")

Almost Anything from these 3 bands

EDIT: actually i recommend everyone listen to Zero7 and Halloween, Alaska

if u guys want me to up some tracks i Will

I listen to alot of Indie/Electronica/ bands

go to http:/www.pandora.com and type in one of those bands or songs, and they'll prob let you listen to the whole song and then it'll play you bands and songs that sound similar.

also some dirty vegas tunes have decent bass.

Interpol has some neat lines.

To go off on a tangent, the name "indie" annoys me. "Indie" should refer to an independent label, not a genre of music.

^I thought it was any music that wasnt backed by a major label.

Well it is, but I know a lot of people who use it as a specific subgenre of rock, bands like Death Cab for Cutie.
