I'm not really the biggest Rush fan in the world, but lately I've sort of started to take a liking to Geddy's playing style, and I figured I'd learn a Rush song

I was thinking maybe Tom Sawyer. And everybody I'm sure is going to recomend YYZ. But what are some other good places to start as far as learning their stuff?

Most of YYZ isnt all that hard, its just the fills and that first bit after the intro that are kind of hard to get at first.

Tom Sawyer is fun too though.

Tom Sawyer and Temples of Syrinx are probably the easiest songs to learn from them.

Playing wise, The "Hold Your Fire" album has his best basslines, lots of notes, but all very melodic. Also, Power Windows is a good place to start, the basslines are easier but just as good.

Other tracks of note:

The Analogue Kid, Kid Gloves, Heresy, Leave That Thing Alone!, Vital Signs, Natural Science.

It doesn't get better than Rush.

There's not much bass in Red Sector A either, it's all done on the keys (but i took that and Afterimage, which is also keyed, and transcribed them).

YYZ is fun to play and so's Tom Sawyer
But I have to agree that Freewill is the way to go

i really enjoy playing Spirit of Radio, the bit after the intro is kinda tricky, but after the intro, it gets straight-forward, but nonetheless, fun.

Rush is pretty much sweet , IMO.

Also, "Force ten" is a good one.

Rush are brilliant at writing songs in a rush, so to speak...

New World Man, Force Ten and Vital Signs are all last mintue jobs, written to make the albums a more appropriate length and to add some different sounds to it.

But Force Ten is good, the bassline can be quite tricky.
