I've been contimplating whether I should buy flatwounds to put in my MIM P bass. I'm curious to hear how they sound. Can anyone point out some bassists that use flatwounds? Also does anyone know if Cone from Sum 41 uses them? I really dig his tone. Thanks a lot!
I somehow doubt that cone uses them. they would not produce the right tone for that style of music. try having a look at some jazz bands that utilise fretless basses. that should give you a good idea

They aren't quite as bright as rounds, but they are a little warmer, and they are softer on your fingers.

james jamerson, willy weeks. They both use flats on a p bass. That is by far the greatest tone you can get on a precision bass IMO.
EDIT: Listen to some of hte jackson five stuff. Jamerson did a lot of jacksons bass back then. I'm not sure what songs, but he does the bassline in ABC,123, whatever it's called. The tone is so pure though. Check it out.
