View Full Version : I had the gig last night!

hey guys...

To start off, my band (The Inedibles) had our first gig last night! It started out horribly though. We were late to soundcheck by forty minutes along with another band, because the gate to the venue was shut. However, there is another entrance which we didn;t know about, so we had to go through there. We go there with ten minutes to go. We watched two bands soundchack, and then they started letting people in. So, we were called to the stage WITH NO SOUNDCHECK!!! WTF!?! So, we were testing the mics very quickly, then...The mixer amp Blew...great. whilst they tried to fix that, we had a 3 minute funk jam (which went down while in a predominantly metal Venue). then, we started, vocals through a tube amp and a crowd of ****ing nutjobs! We had people moshing top our brand of Indie Alt-Rock, it was great! we had people clapping along with songs, a massive moshpit, and we were tighter than a nuns undercarriage! we came off to hugs, handshakes and a very warm reception. A lot of poeple said that Us and the headlining act (From ashes to angels , emo) were easily the tightest bands there! they rock...Today we recorded some of our songs, so i'll get those up at some point, and i'll scrounge pictures off people so i can show you how the gig was. halfway through, my guitarist's strap came off, so he played a minute of a song whilst holding up a guitar with the top of his lower arm! it rocked! We think that we could be gigging in either Basingstoke or somewhere else near farnborough (West end centre, Aldershot? maybe...). But for now, sit tight for pictures and our demo recordings.

Thanks

Yeah, they played Glastonbury this/last year and did a gig at my school the other week with some local bands. They were awesome :thumb:

I looked Mono Nowhere's website the other day, good stuff, Machine Gun Leisure is a great song

JMDavis: Undercarriage = snatch, and as nun's are virgins, they are pretty tight

So why were an Alt rock band and an emo band in a Metal Venue? Odd venue to play if you ask me.

Glad it went well though.

Midhurst Grammar. I think the idea is still in development, but hopefully we have a place.
On my own yeah, I've done some open mics and played jazz in some school concerts, but to be honest this band isn't that serious, we only just found a drummer (albeit an awesome one) and the songs are basically Primus ones plus some ideas I've come up with.

Ashes to angels are't bad for what they do, but Krilli is a bit of a shauvenist of the local scene. he bigs himself up because he's in a band! and yeah, i'd love to gig with you guys, it'd be cool to meet up! and i'd be in your eternal debt if you could get us some link for Venues/Promoters. we've recorded some of our song and my guitarist is mixing down as we speak, Just in case the Venues need a demo CD. but yeah, eternal debt!

so linkinbassist, did you play all originals? did you do the gig for underdogzine promotions?

We did one cover, Which was Hysteria. We did 5 songs of our own, which went down well. we had people moshing to our stuff, which i would never have pictured at all in my life! Yeah, it was for Underdogzine. twas pretty cool...

To the other guys, i'm working on getting pictures from friends, and maybe (just maybe...) a vid or two for you to see. i'll post them ASAP...

I feel so ripped off, I wanted to be the first mysterious internet person that knew you were playing at underdogzine...

Ah well I'm the first internet stranger to say I saw and talked to you at that gig.

I heard from my friend that you'd be playing killing in the name of as a cover, I was way looking forward to that until it didnt happen! But your funk jam was awesome.

And yes Underdogzine sound checks are shocking, they wanted me to play through a 75watt amp whilst both my guitarists had mahoosive amps :( Hellion came off the worse though, stock's bass sounded like a distorted fart and they had no vocals cos the PA was broke.

I want to call you ed but I know that isnt your name, greg prehaps? You were the one with the man /\ the legend \/ t-shirt on right?

I saw one in a really conservative Christmas catalogue

Good job on the gig.

I hate how people kvetch about soundchecks...I guess after enough gigs where you don't even get one, I don't think of it as a big deal.

ah gigs are great, glad you enjoyed it, I've got a gig with the bands i'm in; Sanctuary and The Surrealism in Febuary so that'll be good, one of the songs im playing has got a solo show off song for me and the two guitars, 3 x 3 solos each = 9 solos all together, I actualy hate the song and think it sucks tho...

i did that that shirt on, yeah...Wait...when did i speak to you? if you have a picture, i'll probably recognise you! and apologies for the whole no RATM thing, we had to drop it last minute cause we didn't have it down tight enough. what band were you playing for? And thanks for the funk jam comment, it was so odd having to do that whilst Josh was frantically trying to fix the mike amp!

I was the guy who was with harry from your politics or philosophy or something possibly begining with P class. Long brown hair.
Talked about getting a 7 string to beat your 6 string?

I didnt play on friday, I'll be playing on the 10th though, Im in harry's band "LaBrava".

Heh, I just thought you were wasting time cos they hadn't told you to start yet, we got left up on stage for ages when we opened cos we didnt know if we were just supposed to start when we feel like or when someone told us.

BTW what was the P bass you were playing as well as your 6er?

(and before i get flamed by someone - im in a scene band which fits that description perfectly, so yeh... i know what im talking about).

congrats on the gig - sounds like you've got a good live set there!

My other bass is a CH Guitars 6er, costs £189! its a beauty...and yeah, when i saw my P for the first time, i was like 'wtf mate?'!

Unfortunately, we can't enter cause My other members are at the ACM, and if the majority of the band is not from VIth form, you can;t enter due to insurance reasons...

That old chesnut... we couldn't enter cos our guitarist couldnt make the audition and then to ACM in time, + we're half fboro 6th and half not so we didn't know what they would make of that.

£189? Thats insane. Where'd you pick that up?

TOO MANY BASSES!!! and not enough time.
