What does Al do his snare other than any EQ he uses? My dad has always wondered and I cant find anything on google. Is his snare all EQ? Or does he have a certain method for dampening or anything?

i think he uses an electric snare, because i know starting at ATLEAST 1984 he used electric drums except for his basses and octobans, and if it wasn't electric, it was definatly triggered

ain't talkin' about love was off the first CD, lemme give it a listen right now..... hmm, i actually think that is just a deeper snare. but i may be wrong, he probably does have like moongel or an o-ring, and probably some EQ on it too

AFAIK its just a Ludwig brass/chrome snare drum, no dampening.

Always cracks me up how loud the cymbals are mixed down in van halen songs, totaly overpower everything. His hi-hat sounds like 2 ping rides sloshing together

Yeah, I know this drummer for a local so called "Emo" band who thinks Travis Barker owns AVH, and Peart. It sickens me, then again all this drummer I'm talking about can do is a fast 3 tom roll.

Anyways, thanks for the info. on the snare.

I've always thought he used an E-Kit.

A nice one at that.
