This is my first thread and was inspired by another thread that was basically asking the opposite. So yeah just list bands you disliked but now like. Some of mine are Slayer, Metallica, Lamb of god, Kataklysm (more of a dislike at first not a hate), Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton (if youd believe it i disliked everything except layla really) and yeah theres more but im tired.

Most death metal bands. For a long while thrash metal was the only "extreme" kind of music I'd listen to .

This is a tough one. I'm going to go with Acid Bath. When I first heard them I didn't like them at all, in fact, at that time I would never think about buying either one of their albums. I have both albums now and listen to them frequently.

Korn & Pantera.
I got into Korn's older stuff, and decided I liked them
I hated Pantera until Dimebag died, and everyone started raving about how good he was. Then I began to agree with them, and love Pantera

I agree with the man that said Acid Bath.
Also,my friend several years ago tried me to get me to like Opeth and I just thought they were boring. Then I started playing music myself and played with a full time band and realized just how incredible they really are. Easily in my top 5 now.

Same with Avenged Sevenfold, Killswitch Engage, and Korn (though I only really hated Korn in like 4th grade).
Opeth. I didnt hate them but now i like them.
Me too, I couldn't stand the growlin and the metal parts didn't appeal to me. I didn't hate them but I couldn't get into them. Now I love them too.

I never hated any bands. I either listened to them and liked them or didn't listen to them. but I could say Opeth...at first I hated the growling, I thought it was unlistenable, but now I fcking love them. Btw, the 1st Opeth song I heard was Black Rose Immortal and I really thought...No. Now that was stupid.
Growling > Trivium-like-Screaming. God it annoys the hell out of me.

Matt Heafy can't sing for jack ****. Scream or clear.
I used to hate growls but I grew to love em.
When growling/screaming... you have to come up with a good way of doing it. You can't just scream as loudly as you can into a mic, need some technique, thats what puts me off ALOT of metal bands.

Yeah, I agree.
To many bands just "scream/ growl to do so", without making sure they sound good first.

Yeah few vocalists scream well anymore i cant tell teh different between most of those metalcore bands it all sounds the same to me kind of sad cuz a band like trivium otherwise has potential

They really do too. If they had someone other then Matt sing.
Went a little less generic on some riffs...
They'd be reallly great.
You can hear what they can do, in alot of parts.

i cant even handle any screaming. i recognize its a talent and its hard, but i just dont like it. i guess the only band i like that comes close to 'screaming' would be pantera (phil anselmo).
i would like bodom if not for the screaming but i can only listen to them for so long b4 i have to turn it off.
bands i like that i used to not like (mostly when i was first gettin into metal)- metallica, rolling stones, zep -all embarassing, yea, i love them now

One band i hated before was opeth. WHen i first heard harvest, i thought it sounded too folky. than i tried downloading black rose immortal
But as my tastes in music was more focused on complex music, i started to love opeth
=-fukifiknow-=

i honestly loved opeth at first but i whore them out like no other.. most people just say "no" after one listen but it is absolutly true that you have to notice the transitive points in thier songs in order to truely appreciate it... what would you say are some good songs to get people started on opeth with?
i'd say as for hard songs.... "the drapery falls" thats a pretty beginner opeth song...
as for listening to black rose immortal first, i cant immagine they'd be broken in enough
