I've been a fan of this southern metal band since the release of there debut Use Once and Destroy. This is by far my favorite Phil Anselmo side project, with Down coming in second. There name Superjoint Ritual comes from a Darkthrone song, The Pagan Winter.
Since the death of Dimebag Darrel, Phil has gone into seclusion leaving this band in hiatus. There last release to come out was there live DVD of them performing at CBGBs, i haven't seen this DVD yet. These guys are one of my personal favorite metal bands of all time, what are your opinions?

I quite like Superjoint but I wouldn't say their my favourite Phil Anselmo project as that goes to Down. My favourite song of Superjoint is **** Your Enemy.
Whats Phil up to these days? I heard talk of a new Down album.Anyone know about that or is it just rumours?

I think he went into hiatus after Dime's death.

A new Down album is pretty farfetched.

I use to listen to these guys alot, now just once in a while. Both of their cd's are pretty good. My favorite songs are The Knife Rises, Never to Sit or Stand Again, Messages and Oblivious Maximus. I like pretty much all their songs.

Don't they have three guitars on Oblivious Maximus?

I like a few SJR songs, but in moderation. Phil's voice is quite appauling in places.
I like down, but I´ve never liked Superjoint Ritual for some reason.

**** Your enemy is an awesome track. I've heard a few tracks, but still not got an album. I really should do.

I would suggest getting Use Once And Destroy first. I just think its better than A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred.

Its on the way, Phil has cleaned up his act too i have read.
As for SJR, i'm not a fan of the songs i have heard. That said i haven't listened to the bulk of their work.

I had lethal dose and thought it was just ok, the vocals are really different, though, a little more old school.

Forget Superjoint Ritual, listen to Down. One of my favorite bands ever.

A healthy portion of the songs on Lethal are the same on Use Once And Destroy but with different lyrics. :smash:
And please for god's sake somebody write an intro instead of just clashing a cymbal 4 times. I know it's not like that on UOAD but on Lethal almost every song starts out that way.

Down = incredible.
SJR = also awesome.
Also, the knowledge that a new Down album is on the way is the best thing I've heard since Canada scored a minority government.

oh dude paranoidd just saw ur thing at the hundreth meridian! the hip rules dude! good job!
I think Down is the best Phill side project but SJR are still pretty cool, I'm actually a big fan of Phill's vocals in my opinion they are alot more versatile than people give him credit for.

I'm not a huge fan of SJR. Sure, they're a fun listen (especially when taking bong rips with friends :smoke:), but they're music is basically unoriginal in every way, shape or form, and their albums drag out with one repetitive song after another. For that, I can't stand them for more than 5 or 10 minutes.

Down is sludgy southtern style metal. Jimmy Bower (guitar player in SJR) plays drums in Down, Kirk Windstein from Crowbar and Pepper Keenan from Corrosion of Conformity play guitar, Rex from Pantera does bass and Phil sings.
I personally think they're awesome but they're not Pantera if that what you're looking for.

Is this that band that did "Waiting For The Turning Point"? Cause if it is then they're okay.

I think "Waiting for the Turning Point" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Is it true that Phil is going to start touring and doing some new work with SJR?
I read in revolver i think that hes just had back surgery (november) and is going back to work on his projects asap.
I suppose i can only hope

Yeh i've been hoping that Phil could be on the road by this summer, or a new album of some sort.
