So...since being here I've never seen any discussion on this band. So I thought I'd spark some. Mostly because their album came on on shuffle and yeah...

So what do you guys think of them? I actually like them quite a bit. Good catchy Pop Punk, one of the first Pop Punk bands I got into because my band was covering San Dimas and I needed to learn it so I d/led the album. I bought Astoria when it came out but I've still not bought the older albums, I have them d/led though. It's all fun and catchy stuff. I overplayed Astoria a bit when I got it but now I listen to it every once in awhile and I still enjoy it.

Discuss.

I love The Ataris. They were one of my favorite bands back in the day and got me into the whole pop-punk and pop-emo thing, along with Blink 182 and NFG and stuff. They're an awesome band. Blue Skies is an amazing album and Kris Roe is the man.

Definitely a band that deserves more attention. :thumb:

They are good, but I can only listen to so much of them.

^ The one album I can listen to over and over is Blue Skies...that album was my summer of 1999 or 2000 (I think...I forget which).

Such a great "summer" album/band overall.

Blue Skies is the album that prompted the thread, as a matter of fact :)

But yeah, I agree, the band is really summer music. It just feels like parties and good times. Some of that is probably nostalgia tied to the memories of the music, but it feels like summer to me too.

I love the Ataris. My favourite song is probably Teenage Riot. They really are great, fun, pop-punk.

I'm seeing them at Give It A Name in April. I can't really remember any song titles except San Dimas High School Soccer Rules and Boys Of Summer, but from the two cds I've downloaded, they are decent.

I've read a lot about how only the singer/guitarist is left now or something, and all the music is really experimental with 6 or 7 members? This was when they were announced for Give It A Name, but I may not understand if it's a joke or something...

I may or may not have seen them live... Anyone know if they ever toured the UK with Less Than Jake? I really can't remember.

Anyway- I haven't listened to 'em very much, though from what's said they sound right up my avenue. Suggested songs to download? I can't afford albums anymore, need to start saving for car insurance again :(

AHHHHHHHHH I love the Ataris. Now that I think about it, they're the most successful musicians to come out of Indiana other than all the Jacksons and Haste the Day. There's a few country singers from here, but I don't know their names... Kris is from a city like 15 miles north of here, pretty cool.

I agree with Gav when it comes to summer music. Blue Skies will probably be playing over and over for me this summer.
*looks up acoustic tab for San Dimas

My friends have met Kris a few times. I missed an acoustic show of his a while back. My friend said it was good.

The Ataris is one of the bands that got me into pop punk and I still listen to them. Their first album Anywhere but Here is probably one of the funnest albums to just kick back and listen to. Blue Skies... and End is Forever are also albums that I can listen over and over again and rarely grow tired of.
So Long Astoria is probably my least favorite album of theirs because it seems to have less of the fun energy the earlier albums have.

You're damn right you agree with me.

;)

No, but really, it's a great summer album. It's fun to throw on The Ataris and just go skating or sit on the hoods of your cars and talk.

I can't remember them ever touring the UK with LTJ. I know Allister did, but I dont think it was The Ataris.

I love this band so much, possibly one of my all time favourites. I've got all the albums, apart from the EP with the acoustic of SDHSFR, I forget the title of the EP. They can do all kinds of song too, which makes them great, from the meaningful stuff like 'Heaven Is Falling', the great angry 'Teenage Riot' and the love songs like... erm... I cant remember the title... "The runway lights are the deepest blue like the colour of your eyes, so hold me close and kiss me one last time..." jeez whats it called. I really cant think. But Yeah! Awesome!
