Any downloads to add 'Microphone' into Sound Control's Playback options?

I'm using a Sigmatel soundcard and I can't find Microphone under the Playback options. I can record myself, the laptop picks up the sound; but it can't playback. Is there some sort of download or something?

By play back... do you mean something you have recorded wont come back out? or you can't hear what's going into your mic?

I can't hear what I'm playing through the laptop on my guitar. According to Dell, my machine doesn't support this feature, but the person said there might be a software.

Ah. So monitoring is disabled.

Well, I'm not sure, but the free program Audacity may have a live monitoring option. Or if you're a communist, you can download something like Sonar, Cubase, or Adobe Audition, which have that capability.
