I'm just full of pep tonight, huh?
I've been looking into the Martin Backpacker guitar for a bit now, but I haven't got a chance to actually hold and play one. I want one, or one just like it, because I love to play as I walk, around campus, all sorts of times on the go.
Has anyone played one? I know it's said to sound tinny, but I don't mind that too much, as long as it's decent. Anyone?

Pne, I'm a female. Two, I don't get it. And three, our GC doesn't have any, believe it or not. They stopped carrying them and they don't plan on starting again anytime soon.

Yeah, I just wanted to see if anyone had any big complaints, like...there's no trussrods, the neck came off, or, it's untunable. I don't expect it to sound like my full size. I just want one I can carry while walking easy.

you might as well just get a light acoustic, the backpacker is basically good for one thing, backpacking
(obviously)
if you're going hiking or somewhere with little cargo room, go backpacker. but if you just want one to walk around with, id suggest just finding a lighter acoustic

I played one in my local GC the tone/sustain is about half of a normal guitar with a twangy sound to it. The neck feels like a regular martin acoustic but the body is kinda wierd to get used to.

Yah, if you're looking for portability you're better off just getting a baby taylor. It's nearly the same size and the tone doesn't suck; and the backpacker's tone does infact, suck.

Pne, I'm a female. Two, I don't get it.
You know, that guy! The guy who walks around with his guitar all day, often wearing flip flops, needs a hair cut and a shave, possibly needs a shower, often ssen wearing a wool knit cap, plays Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Phish, and Jack Johnson (ugh!, I just feel dirty mentioning that name). That guy! I hate that guy. Occasionally, on a warm spring day, I like to sit outside and play some acoustic guitar for the squirrles (and I admit, I need a hair cut and a shave, but I don't own a pair of flip flops, or a pink collared shirt, and on a collared shirt, my collar always stays down, just as God intended), and suddenly attractive coeds walk in my general direction. They love the guitar because guitar=cool and sex appeal, and it hides my awkward, geeky, true persona, which is great. Then they drop the bomb "do you know any John Mayer/Jack Johnson?" Me:"Uhhhh, no. I know some Rush though, do you like Rush, or Alice in Chains, or Led Zeppelin?" Hot girls: "Who?" (God, even to Zep man! What do parents teach their kids these days?) Me: "........" (I am not good under pressure, or with women, or with people for that matter) Hot Girls: "OK then" and they walk away. This is what that guy does, he plays that music that those girls (and frat boys) like, and he wins. That's that guy.
However, you are a female, so you can not possibly be that guy without a lot of expensive surgery, so you should walk around and play your guitar. Females+guitars=hotness. That's just my opinion though. It extends to any female with musical/dramatic/artistic talent. So go on, be that girl.
Sorry if I bashed any bands/singers you like, it's just my opinion. But I can not apologize for the rant, because it's a true story about what that guy has done to me.

I saw a that guy today, made me sick.
Walking to class to take a quiz, he was just sitting there on a bench with like 5 girls around him singing some song...so i imagine it was Jack. I like jack johnson, I dont, however, like THAT GUY.

Oh! Lol....naw...well, no to everything but the carrying guitar. I assure you, I am quite clean. But I have to walk 4 miles a day or more to get to and from uni., and I really like to play while I walk, so I need something small to carry and stash in the classroom. I'd totally get a baby Taylor if I had the cash, but I don't...but you can get these little backpackers for $100 or so.
And...who the **** has never heard of Led Zepplin? Are you sure they don't think you're holding a trombone?
