Ahoy there.

I've just ventured into the relm of home recording. I used to just use 1/4 to 1/8 converter into my Mic imput for recording bass and that was fine for a few days. Now i've come across a Mixer from a friend, i've plugged it in and fiddled with a few knobs and I got quite a nice sound from my mic'd amp into the mixer to the mic imput on the computer. Only problem was that the was quite alot of hiss in the back ground.

I've heard that using a USB interface I can by pass my crappy soundcard to get a nice clean sound from my mixer and amp.

I have a Soundblast 5.1 Live Digital card lying around that I can use. Would that be of any help in getting a cleaner sound.

Thank you in advance.

My Equipment is as Follows:

Epiphone Les Paul Custom.
75 Randall combo.
Alto Dynamic mic (not completly sure of the model)
Alto AMX-100 10 channel mixer
Standard computer soundcard (Can be replaced with a Soundblaster Live!)

Also the recordings are quite muddy? Is this due to the mixing settings i'm using?

replace the sound card first... try to keep the high settings down...
