View Full Version : How is the Pop Punk Forum doing? / Forum improvement suggestions thread
Gnarmageddon

I stole this idea from Nick. Hope he doesn't mind. It seemed to work well for Punk though.
I've noticed lately that there isn't very much activity outside of our community thread, and I believe that this needs to change.
So first, rate how you think the forum is doing right now on a scale of 1-10. Vote what you think, we're not worrying about feelings here.
Then provide some suggestions of how you think we could make the forum better. What could I do to better the forum? What kinds of threads could be made to lure people away from just the community thread?
Don't be afraid to throw anything out there. I've got an open mind for improvement.

I give an 8. The forum is doing great, but we need more active threads. Most of the active threads just have old discussions such as Blink and Green Day, or are spamming, like the band name game thread.
In my opinion, we should orgaise some sort of debate thread if possible, or I'd be willing to sort out some better threads.

We've tried that one, and it didn't work so well, but I agree I'm totally for a debate thread of some sort.

I'd say somewhere around an eight.
The forum is pretty much free of spam, all of the users are really cool, and there really aren't any problems.
Really, the biggest thing for me is that many people are too lazy to post in threads that require any sort of thought, such as Forced Listening. There isn't anything that can be done about that though.
Also, a debate thread would be fun, but as I said, many people seem to shy away from threads involving any thought/writing.

I'd be totally in for doing stuff like that though if I could find the time.

I dunno why, i guess its the lack of good pop-punk bands that people talk about. I dont want new ****y "emo" pop-punk scene stuff, i like some of it yes, but whatever happend to good old fasioned raw pop-punk? Funny lyrics, up beat tempo, and the general feel that the band dosnt care much about things, newer emotional stuff is realy starting to do my head in.
Thats nothing to do with this forum, or the forum peoples, id just rate it higher if there was more discussion of, what i see as truer pop-punk bands.

I gave it a 5. The only thread I really see with much activity is the community thread, which I've never really gotten involved in. Granted, Pop-Punk has a smaller group of regulars than the bass forum where I spend most of my time. I'm not entirely sure why, but this place always seemed to have a lot more activity and interesting threads back when I was new to the forum.
Actually, come to think of it, I should have at least given a 6, as the people here seem to be really quite helpful and kind.

Sorry for posting but i don't lurk i just took a tiny peep and i saw this.
I'd say 3 atm, one of the reasons i'm not really gonna post anymore much/at all is because i find it boring and not enought to talk about, not enought good threads, not enough people willing to do stuff etc.
Anyway, see ya in a few months.

Eh, to be honest this forum is pretty dead. No one's really discussing anything. But it goes through cycles, and sometimes it's like this, sometimes there's tons going on so you can't even keep track. I'm not worried.

We need more dicussion in here than in our Community Thread, although my band thread has brought up some. We also need to keep band threads alive for more than say, a week.

I can only give it a 10, because it's the only place i go, (like 90% of the time), and it's the only place i feel welcome.
And the topics aren't so bad either.. :)

We need to start stealing ideas from other genre forums!
Also, almost everyone on the forum would agree that PP is the most friendly place on MX. Maybe thats not always a good thing. Come on people, get controversial so we can e-kill each other!

The highest amount of people viewing Pop Punk I've seen was around 25.
Bringing back the Non Pop Punk Band discussion threads again would be a good idea.

Yes. Your threads are nice. They are more of introducing people to new bands though. Non Pop Punk discussion threads are more of the equivalent of someone making a normal band thread, just not about a pop punk band.

Well exactly. Most people here don't listen to a huge variety of music so we have to introduce new bands. Of course the point is to listen and then discuss but most people don't seem to do that...it's more a "I like this band, already listen to them" or "Hey good job guys." Not many people seem to try em out :-\
But I don't see the point in actual band threads about non-Pop-Punk bands because as is, if I want to discuss said band, I just go to the forum where I'd class them to do so. Usually gets more discussion there too.

You guys love my articles right? :-*
Pop-Punk gets a 9 from me. Sure, you guys are slow, but you guys always make me feel welcome, and the same applies for any other person who visits. Plus, you guys like my articles (when I had time to write them :upset:).
If you guys have more ways of discussing pop-punk, I'd be inclined to visit more than just in the community thread, posting in articles, and reading the stickies.

Couldn't agree more, but I thought it was better than a 5 :p Emotional pop-punk is ok, but frankly boring if that's all people sing about. I want songs about how great your new girlfriend is, how you think pizza should be cheaper, or that really funny thing that happened last week in college.

The problem with debating here, is that most people who are regs, are more interested in hardcore/emo bands. And therefore the talk ends up with non pop-punk bands.
I give it a 4, I feel the community here is great, but to be honest, ever since the YSI thread was killed and taken off mx completely it seems this forum is in a downward spiral of boringness.
There seems ot be a huge lack of things to talk about here.
Hence why I did what I did.

Part of it is the stereotype that this forum's users, for the most part, are younger than, say, the users you'd find in PN&WI. If I see a 15 year old throwing around the diction that that forum uses, I'll be stunned.
But the thing is, I wouldn't want that, anyway. Most pop-punk is supposed to be fun stuff, right? I mean, come on:
Well another bad day's gone by, another day of being angry
Never known a person who could spend so much time being mad at me
And I didn't mean to get here late, my car ran out of gas
Ad then a freight train crashed into the road and I had to save the people
Didn't think you'd get so mad, but here we go, here we go again
Her face cramps and she makes a frown, then she makes a whiney sound
Then it won't be long till I get knocked down, well oh no, here we go again
And I know you didn't get your way, and now I guess you want to fight all day.
I better watch out what I say, well don't look now 'cause here we go again
Well I'm glad that you calmed down, never thought I'd ever see you smile
After your head spun around and you spit all that green stuff out on me
No, I can't go to the mall - that really sucks, you know how much I love to wait
While you change again and again and again and again and again.
Didn't mean to let you down, but here we go, here we go again
Well, I'm really sorry that I made you mad again
That doesn't really mean I'm sorry
Cause it's really not my fault that you're over reacting
Here we go, here we go again
Here we go, here we go again!
I'd rather see fun things like that rather than lyrics about antidisestablishmentarianism, authoritarianism, and authoritativism.

Pop-punk to me is all about being immature. And trying the Neverland effect of never growing up
Maybe Michael Jackson would have been even more successful in a pop-punk band?

Jom: Yay me being almost the oldest one here :-\ I use elevated diction here occassionally but I don't feel the need to be pretentious to get respect here. PNWI almost requires it sometimes which is a little lame to be honest.

Yeah but the distractions are what's fun.
On Sputnikmusic, whenever the flow of conversation of a review/album/artist gets completely sidetracked, it's not hard for me to delete all the posts and get things back into the proper flow of things. Sometimes off-topic posting is fine, but I refuse to let it get carried away on Sputnikmusic because a small number of the regulars (who are the biggest spam whores, consequently) there have the capacity of being really freakin' stupid.
