I'm not too experienced in actually playing different snares, only a few come time mind. Currently I play a 14x3.5 maple snare on my kit, and I'm getting a 10x5.5 soon. What will be the differences in sound once it's tuned nicely?

not sure exactly, but the 3.5 is probably a piccolo snare so your 10x5.5 will be alot less articulate(sounds like a nice word?), basically it will be alot less sensitive than the 3.5, it mostly depends what kind of snare it is though, it will most likely sound good if you tune it high and it will have lots of crack like that

The piccolo is just that, kind of annoying snares really.
The 10" will be a tight little pop or crack, depending on how you tune it. Great for aux snares, accents, etc..
