Ok I'm buying a backup bass and I think squier would be the best choice but what about johnson. Oh yeah I am getting a jazz model. Thanks on any comments.

How much money do you have to spend?

Hate to say it this way, but it is a matter of what piece of **** looks better...or stinks the least.
Get something worth while; if you need a backup bass, don't sacrifice your needs/wants. I highly recommend getting something better, but if you just want a bass, get the cheaper one. One cannot be that much better than the other.

That's a load of sh**. You seriously think that a $100 bass is on par with high end basses like Conklin, Sadowsky, custom Fenders, custom Peaveys, or even Schecter, ESP, standard Fenders, etc?
As what Thonk said, it matters how much you're willing to spend. If you're only going to spend as much as it would take to get a Squier, you might want to get an Ibanez or SX.

That is exactly what I was saying...I was saying that the Johnson and Squire can't be too different in quality.

Squier is way better quality than Johnson. If you played both, I don't know how you could think they're of the same quality. IMO, Johnson is in the same category as Rouge, Squier is in the same category as entry level Ibanez, Peavey, and ESP.

My bass teacher plays a Johnson, I used to play a Rogue. His bass is so much better than the Rogue.

Squier, looks good, plays good, and you can change the pickups to make it as good as a standard fender,
Although I've never played (or heard of) a Johnson so yeh, but Squier's are good
