Quick question on snare sizes

Basically i am getting a Mapex black panther snare drum (possibly a 13x5" one), and i was wondering if a 14x5.5 inch and 13x5 inch would have vast difference in sounds

i can get either (but would be easier to get a 13x5) and the fact that the 14x5.5 is gonna cost something like £120 more at a time when money isnt growing on trees for me, so would it work out just as well?


btw if it helps/makes a difference i play mainly metal music

I have grown to love the sound of 13" snares. They are high-pitched. If both models you are talking about are the same material, they should be pretty close, although I think the 13" would be higher-pitched. Whether its good for metal is up to you. One of my personal fav snares is the Musashi (13x6.5), and I play metal, screamo, emo, etc

They are both brass snare so i figured they cant be too different

EDIT: bah i will just treat myself to the 14" one
