I just bought a cheap 49 key keyboard a week ago and have been into making songs with synths, kinda like what you hear in progressive metal. Although I love prog-metal, this song is just a soft atmospheric instrumental song without any heaviness. It's called "weird atmospheres" and it just has a simple string pad with piano. Let me know what you think.

good idea, I'll have to mess around with that, but I don't want to scare people, I want them to relax and reflect on things, and be moved by the orchestrals.

it's definitely gloomy sounding. The nature of the pad... I see a dense fog swirling around dead tree stumps.

nice imagery, I think about a foggy day and the sky's atmosphere looking dark and weird.

Give me a few minutes and check back, I'm gonna post a weird atmosphere also. Soft synths are awesome.

I didn't care too much for that. It wasn't particularly well written and it was kind of unfulfilling.

it was written using Dimension Pro and Sonar 5. I've been experimenting with midi stuff for about a year now and my previous 7 years of musical training also help out... a little.

I look forward to this. Piano/strings is interesting.
Dissonant tendencies. Distinctive atmosphere. But how about varying it a bit more?

quite possibly. I am thinking about creating an extended version with a freeform piano melody at the end, or I can add more instruments.
