It means you have to use your index finger to hold down the second fret and stretch your pinky over the sixth fret and play the harmonic whilst holding down the second fret. One of only a few ways to play that Eb harmonic, and it is tricky at first but keep practising and you will get it.

^ Isn't it called an artificial harmonic?

I can never get it

I play it with my pinky on the 2nd fret and then I use my plucking hand to pluck the string and make the harmonic. If I want it the other way, I can't. My hands are too small I suppose.

Yep Gav, it's an artificial one. The same harmonic can be done by doing a pinch harmonic at where the 28th fret would be had the fretboard continued that far. I now do that to perform the harmonic as it really doesn't sound much different than the 2(6) approach, is easier and you can play the other harmonics after it more easily as a result.

2(6) harmonic sucks on a 35" scale bass.

Ooo, nasty. Try the pinch method, I find it far more economical.

I'll show you how nasty in person.

It doesn't hurt just doesn't look like your hand shouldn't bend that way.

How'd job hunting go?

Ah, that's not so bad then, it does look pretty awkward doing it on a usual 34" but on a 35" it must be annoyingly so. Hmm, then again I can do it on my sixer... Looks pretty screwed up though.

I handed out cvs to various places, most of the shops down Denmark Street way, Virgin, Soundcontrol etc. But no calls back so far. I was thinking about giving bass lessons but I can't do them in my flat and the only way I'd travel is if I charged £20. Would you say that is an alright amount for an hour?

What you been up to yourself?

Well we got told we could charge around £15-£20 by Dave so go with that guideline.

I'm cool. I got told I do not need an elbow operation and I should just go gym alot more so now im killing time till uni auditions and fingers crossed we both pass them so I can do something more interesting with my life.

I find that flicking out your elbow makes the stretch much more managable.

Right then, I'll see about making flyers...

What was it that might have caused you to get the op? I have heard some rumours that there might not be a degree coming this year... Someone had been talking to Chris and Adam on the admin team, and they said it might not get sorted in time to get the degree together. I'll go nuts if that happens, I'm not gonna sit around or work for a year. I might need to apply to the ACM one if that is the case and move. Problem with UCAS is the crazy deadlines, I think it is too late to apply to a uni through them.

It is too late to apply via UCAS so it looks like we'll be heading to ACM via private application.

Argh the admin was always their weakest point.

I'll have a word with Chris and Adam and see what they say and I'll let you know. What's your email? Mine is katana_manatee at hotmail dot com.

I was recently performing on the last open day with the school diploma band the diplomats, and our usual drummer was stuck in Wales and we got another guy to do it who I later found out was on the admin team.

The guitarist was joking about not letting the prospective students know that the course was actually ****, and I said well above all else don't mention the crap admin. The drummer got a bit annoyed.

Then I said, well sorry but your team haven't exactly done a great job, me being switched amongst bass groups 3 times, not getting the cds we needed until three weeks into the course etc.

What does the drummer look like? Is he the big Dream Theater guy?

And I had my scrapes with admin about lack of cd's and being moved down a bass group.

Nah he is about five 10 I think, thin, spiky hair, possibly Jim, Tim or Tom?

Most of the people who were in group one are now in group 2 except for three people out of a class of twelve.

Tom I think. That kid bragged too much for my liking, amazing drummer just a wee bit arrogant.

The classes seem a bit silly arranged like that. The divide should be so you have people of your playing ability in the class, but 3 in one? Hmmm.

Aye only three peeps in group one stayed... I am not sure how the heck they arranged it by playing ability. In group two there were some better players than we had in group one...

How I saw it was:

Term 1 = People arranged due to assesment scores
Term 2 = People arranged due to LPW/RSW scores in first term
Term 3 = Doesn't matter at all.

Aye, it was definately Tom, I remember him saying that he is really damn good, he impresses himself sometimes and that was thanks to the course.

Ughh, I hate arrogant musicians, well arrogant people in general. It's one thing to casually say you can play some very advanced stuff, but quite another when you start saying you impress yourself...

Edit: Ahh, that explains it, I blagged most of my RSWs and LPWs. Usually had scores of seventy and up though.

Aye he had an ego.

In hindsight I put no effort into the course. I got scores in 60's and didn't care.

I put no effort in the first term but I am putting it in from this term, you can't wing it when it gets tough. But even if someone doesn't do as well as they would of liked on the course, in the grand scheme of things it isn't that bad, it is not as if it is a vital qualification, and you never stop learning after it. Anyways, I need some... Blinner? (Breakfast, lunch and dinner) Got up at four o clock trying to sleep off a bastard of a migraine, and wasn't hungry 'til now. Catch ya later.
