Need help setting up software to record!!

Hey sup guys/gals and anything in between. Just downloaded Sonar cakewalk 5 producer edition and WinAce archive reader to run it on, but I have no clue how o set them up so I can record with them. Are they all I need or is there other equipment or software/different versions that are required. The comp i'm running it on is standard windows xp with the small factory speakers?? I don't know if that helps at all but that's all I know. please help I'm dyin to get this set up as soon as possible.
