Hey...umm someone showed me how to do this before but I can't really remember what the tuning is for fifths, do you tune or E to a C or a D? better yet just tell me the standard tuning for fifths on my bass without tearing the neck up ;)

Yeah E goes down 2, A down one, D stays the same and the G goes up one

E.... then a fifth above that is B... then a fifth above that is F# (getting very dodgy), then a fifth above that is C#.... so yes, that's some crazy tuning and good luck with the whole string-snappining phenomenon that may just pay you a visit.
Or you could do it the cello way. :D Silly me... logic has abandoned me today. I think I left it at the bus stop...

E B F# C#... yea that maths up... but i think
C G D A would work better (downtune the e to c, a to g, and uptune the g to a)
or mabey: D A E B (downtune the e to d, up tune the d to e, and the g to b)

Why would I do that? It's not cello tuning.
Now that I got all this done, I need to fine me a capo!

cgda is correct
if i'm correct, some older european music called for this tuning of the bass, but as western music developed more it became obsolete
bass is the only of those strings tuned to fourths though, the rest of em are straight up 5ths. violin - GDAE

Don't hate ya ;).
the only thing I don't like about this is the dropped C...ugh. too floppy for anything.
EDIT: One crazy thing is the tuning harmonics are at 3.2 and 5!

I checked it out, thats where I got the idea for the capo, my C would sound cleaner and I could probably making some cool tapping and finger style.

I had another question, I was reading up on that Alternate Tunenig Articles, and he was talking about extra light guage strings (piccolo). Are these readily availble at stores or will I have to go on the net?

More than likely you'll have to get them off the net or maybe your local store could order them in for you?

You can probably have your local shop order light gauges for you. Or, order an octave-paired 8 string set.
CGDA is the most common tuning in 5ths. I'd use a .125 or .130 for your C, and a .80 or .85 for the G, depending on your stiffness preferences. Leave your D as is and use a .45 or .50 for the A. I mention these gauges because they'd be the most likely to keep an even tension on your neck, and the stiffness of the strings will be relatively equal, so it feels more like a standard tuning.
I once had a fretless 5 string that I had tuned AEBF#C#. I basically just used a standard 6 string set, but tossed out the D. I also experimented in Ab Eb Bb F C, as well as A E B F# B. Twas quite fun, however the bass died on me, and I've never gotten around to trying it again.
I keep one of my basses in 5ths, CGDA, cello tuning.

7 and 5 (on the opposite strings as when you tune in 4ths) works.

Yeh that lesson section is really motivating, I was looking through the lessons on walking bassline and I saw using voice leading. Good stuff I haven't learned yet.

E B F# C#
D A E B
C G D A
B F# C# G#
A E B F#
All are tune in fifths (For a 4-string of course)
^ What gauges are you using for that?
I use a pretty heavy guage. Don't remember exactly what, though.

How many are possible without snapping strings?

D A E B = Replace G-string with C-string and tune accordingly.
C G D A = Super thin G-string guage needed, fat E-String.
B F# C# G# = Low B-string and thin G-string.
As for E B F# C# = I don't know... Replace A-string with D-string and tune down. Replace D-string with G-string and tune down. Get super thin C-String.
