I was talking with sixner and he was showing me some of his custom bass designs. So I figured that we should start a thread where people can show some of the designs that they are working on for their dream bass. I will be starting to make a new bass withing the next couple months and need to get some designs going. So feel free to post whatever you have drawn out no matter how bad it is.

Here are a couple of mine that I am toying with. My brother wants me to make one with sharp edges and points. So I figure that I might try a spider web inlay for the body and a black widow on the 12th fret. Nothing too fancy, just a J/J pickup configuration and 3 knobs.

This one was just something I made up in class one day. I'm not really sure what kind of woods I want to use for it.

I just found out about something called "snakewood" which looks exactly like a snake. I really like that idea and want to make something the sort of resembles a snake. Any ideas?

the neck on the second one looks weird, tho i like the body design. walnut top, cherry bottom with a wenge neck

That second* one is really nice, i love the kind of scroll horn, very Carl thompson esque. Love it.

Im actually in the middle of making a bass, i dont have any pics as yet, but ill throw up some when its done. :)

I do really like the second one as well, I've been a fan of the scrolled horns seen on many CT bass's.
My custom designs are all in notebooks currently at my school. Their pretty bad anyways, considering my dream is a Conklin 9 with a fanned fret system, neck through design, neck woods being maple/purpleheart, black ebony maple neckboard with no inlays, and a zebrawood top...

First Poster, the reason the neck looks werid is cause it doesn't get thinner when it goes towards the head, but its just a sketch, and damn hot.

I've drawn up quite a few basses, but I'm never really pleased with them.

Once I get Photoshop, I'm going to mock up the Darryl Jones-esque jazz bass I have floating in my head. Hopefully I can come up with the perfect double neck design for this summer.

Yep, I am needing a design for another bass to make. So pretty soon I will be making one of those designs.

Unfortunately not ... been utterly bogged down with college and work ... though hopefully should get some more done in the next few weeks.

PS Yes I did actually sorry, I made a jig for the neck and pickup route outs and I rounded part of one of the edges with a rasp ... I can't believe I forgot about that :thumb:

I drew one in woodshop when I wasn't doing anything that had the top and bottom horns of a Corvette and the rest looked like a Jazz. It was pretty sweet. I wanna build something like it sometime during school.

My custom would be an SG body style but with a full 34" scale neck.

Some designs I'm throwing around for an engineering class for a bass I'll be building next year. Yes, I know, I screwed up the body around where the neck meets the body, since it's prob gonna be a blot on. Among other flaws, also, neck is really not proportioned.

For the design I'm gonna be trying to merge ergonomics with portability and still maintain a full size neck, not like a Nomad.

not only that but it is expensive and splinters easily also hard to cut and drill properly, but when used properly it turns out amazingly

there is my body design for by DN, dunno if im having control knobs where they are tho, its gonaa be swamp ash back and flame maple bookmatched top, with padouk and rosewood necks, all black hardware :smoke:

(top neck fretless, bottom fretted btw)
