Hey guys,
I'm working on learning End of the Heartache by Killswitch Engage, and I think the beat he plays at the beginning is a poly rhythm. He's doing triplet patterns on the bass and 8ths on the hats. Does anybody know of any good independed exercises that could particularily help with this sort of thing.

okay, dig this, try laying down some triplets on the bass drum, then stick in some eigth notes on the hi'hat. After you master that simple task, you'll be able to do this no problem.
Try to sound out the polyrhthymlkythm with your hands, bchick chickboomchick bchick chickboomchick bchick chickboomchick repeat, something like that

make sure you're able to do triplet/eigths with your hands first, i find it's easier and then you can match up your foot with the triplet hand until you get used to the feeling of doing it alone. That's what helped me Good luck
I love doing triplets on the bass..It sounds soo nice if you can get it down right.

No. It is far from a polyrhythm. There isn't even a triplet, have no idea where you got that idea. I'll post the main rhythm down below. It's quarter notes and the downbeat on the three. It could be eighth notes but I find it easier to count One-Two-THREE-Four... Plus it fits the rhythm with the bass better. Anyways here it is below.... Please remember, this is the basis of the rhythm, there are some extra beats in the first measure of the 4th beat every few measures for a transition, which if you listen to you can figured it out.

The Crash could be a China Cymbal BTW, more or less personal preference.

Thanks man. It just sort of has a triplet groove to the bass beats, and I was counting them as triplets.
eg
TRIP-A-LET-TRIP-a-LET-TRIP-A-LET-TRIP-a-let.
