does any body know what or how the strokes vocalist gets the vintage sound on his vocal track on recordings and live. If its some kinda vintage vocal amp that i wont be able to afford is there a cheap or alternative way or acheiving the same effect?

Well... a bit of EQing on the mixer should give you that effect... boost around 6k I think? (rought guess) and cut the bass... leave treble, or gently boost it, no more than 1:00.

Shut up, fanboy, that isn't contributing to the thread

TS: As someone said, a slight touch of overdrive on your voice might work it, or using one of those fancy 'Cab microphones' They seem good for vintage sounds

Smoking a lot might also do the trick, but is detrimental to your health.

get a "fuzz" overdrive, which simulates the '60s era heavy rock guitar distortion and blend an overdriven channel with a dry channel. I think that'll yield the best results with a lot of tweaking.
