Hey guys.... Im in a band that got together about 6 months ago... We play blink182, weezer ect. and a few of our own origional songs.... Anyway... The high school we graduated from 2 years ago wants us to play at there queen of courts school dance... Now so that you know Im the drummer so I really don't have much to worry about, but when it comes to the band sticking together I think this gig will really bring us down cause i don't think anyone will get into it... Its a school of about 140 1/3 hick 1/3 prep 1/3 punk.... And everyone that goes there knows us... Should we do this gig or should we start where no one has a clue who we are???? ANY feedback would be appreciated
Matt

I personally would not do it. I'm in high school now, and I absolutely hate playing at school sanctioned events. They are the reason my first band split up.

If you havnt really played anywhere else I wouldnt.

When I was in year 12 a couple of years back a friend was organising some battle of the bands crap and made me get some people together to enter it, so i got some people together and jammed for a week and went up and sounded like utter sh!t, and everyone remembered.

There isnt really a moral from that story. Just start somewhere more low key to begin with Id say.

Whats more low key than a school dance?!
Take some advise from us old-timers on here- play as much as you can anywhere you can whenever you can. 20 years will go by fast and you'll only really regret the stuff you didn't do.
just my 2 cents

Well, how long have you guys been playing for? I'd do it, cause the band i'm right now, we're pretty tight and could quite easily pull it off. Just all depends on your confidence and whether you can do it on the night.

play it my band played at school as our kinda 2nd gig but first offical gig, and we sucked bad but it was still fun, we didnt know we sucked at the time but we did lol idk i dont regret it though, so go for it

but it wouldnt hurt anything to try to find some kinda bs gig before then at one of your friends house or somthing

Definatly, a little gig never hurt no one. Live experience is always good, no matter how big or small the gig is.

Hey guys, I'm Josh, and I the guitarist for the band that I mentioned in the original post. Matt does not think this is a good idea for our band to play this show, I, on the other hand think we should play. I think any show we can play is a good show. Matt doesn't think we should play because is afraid we will do bad and the kids won't be into it and we will never want to play again. He thinks we will play bad not because we suck, but because we are nervous. It will be our first show. Even though matt and I have different ideas about this school dance, we both see each other points. And when a decision is made, it will be made by the band as a whole, without anyone getting mad. I think I should also mention that we are getting paid to do this show. Around $300 dollars I think, which Is a main reason why I want to play this show, plus I think any show we can play is a good show, and if the kids don't like it, screw them, We like to play and we have fun doing it, I see where Matt is coming from, but we just need some outside views, so keep posting replies. thank you

Dude 300 bones?!! This should not even be a damn qustion, of course you should play the damn show!! Any money you can make for the band to buy whatever you need is very good, and 300 bucks is not bad at all for your first gig. You know how much my band got paid at our first gig, 30 bucks.

Yeah so i say deffently play it no matter what. And stop worrying about what the kids will think because
1. your out of that school so who gives a **** what they think of you
2. As long as you guys have fun there should be no reason why you should be discouraged form playing more shows in the future

^ not really.

$300 is definatly a good reason to play for. The most my band have made from a show is around £40, so definatly do it. Even if you have 5 people in your band thats $60 each
