So everyone posts about how they cant come up with good band names. I think we should have a discussion on what makes a band name good, how you find the one for you, or if any of that really matters.

Beyond being catchy and easy to remember I don't think a name is very important to the fans. I like it when the name has a meaning behind it and it kinda holds a place next to your heart, but then I wouldn't care if a band I was in was called The Cuntriders. Actually thats kind of cool.. anyways what do you guys think about names?

PS. Yes my band is nameless currently. The guitarist and I are both very picky.

to me i think it depends a little on the type of the music wether or not a name is good.

like my band is called scuurvy. cos we sing about pirates.... so it fits...
if we called ourselves the ninjas or something it would be a bit silly.

not that a fitting name is really that important...

to me the most important thing is that the band likes it and thinks its cool

I think a name that, in some way, describes the band is good.

The Darkness is a name which clearly sounds like a parody of 70's/80's cheesy metal, and sure enough, they are.

Iron Maiden sounds like something to do with heavy metal (either that or a torture device :-s )

We called our band Suicidal Ducklings: Suicidal because that sounds like a heavy metal band, and Ducklings because The Ducklings sounds like a punk rock band...an our music fuses the two into one fantastic soundscape.

it cant be too long, a serious name works, if its stupid, the band wont get respect, if its a joke band then its ok but there a waste of time, it doesnt have to suit the genre coz when metallica started they were like a fusion of the ramones and led zeppelin, and metalica didnt suit the genre they played, a name with meaning is what u need
