View Full Version : Pop-Punk Forum Band (Again)
Dead Star

Ok you lovely forum members you, I know we've had this thread before, and I remember getting "Holiday" from it, so I know we're capable of doing this.
Basically the Idea for all you people who haven't seen this before, is that forum members decide on a song to play, and each record their part to the song, then it is mixed together, and voila, a song by the Pop-Punk band.
I bought a connection from my bass into my computer recently, and I remembered this thread, I'm sure many others of you have the capabilities to record also, so if we could make this happen it would be awesome.
So discuss away songs the band could play, or if any of you are willing to participate, please say so.
Cheers,
J

I did drums (programmed) and Guitar for Holiday. So of course I'm down for doing it again. I can do programmed drums, bass or guitar.
If I was any good at an instrument, I would. But, I'm no good.

I was thinking of making this thread today, that's weird.
But it fails too easily. No one will sing. Who can put everything together etc etc

Do you mean like a drum machine?

I would also do bass.
Incase nobody got that from my initial post.

Sort of. I basically write the drum tab and it plays that, whatever it may be.
I also have mixing software.

So is that a yes for guitar from the slightly less hairy Vince?

I'll do guitar. I have plenty of time on my hands.
Depending on the song of course, and if anyone else would like to do it.

I can do it if needed though I've already done one so if someone else wants it I'd give them the opportunity.
I can do guitar or SIMPLE bass.
And sing about 3 notes flat.

I'm getting a drum machine in the next week or so and wouldn't mind testing it out but if anyone has a drum kit or Vince wants to do it I don't mind. I'll be an extra extra backup if you will.

So any ideas for a song? Here's some just to put some songs out there;
Buzzcocks - Ever Fallin In Love
Dropkick Murphys - The Gauntlet
The Offspring - Jennifer Lost The War
The Adicts - Viva La Revolution
Operation Ivy - Unity
Dead Star
01-15-2006, 05:12 PM
The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright
Alkaline Trio - My Little Needle
Bouncing Souls - Manthem
My two cents.
Ooh now you have me thinking...
Rancid - Radio
The Offspring - All I Want or Come Out And Play
Less Than Jake - Look What Happened (the problem here though, is trumpets.)
Alkaline Trio - Armageddon
Rise Against - Like The Angel
NOFX - Stickin' In My Eye (we could have so much fun, mixing like 4 of us singing the chorus flat)
I'd suggest Basket Case, but Green Day were done last time.

If there's enough interest, we could even split this into two bands. Another suggestion, if people are up to it: Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't by Brand New. Really easy song, and an awesome song, too. Or maybe A Decade Under The Influence by TBS or something...
EDIT: Or better yet, some older TBS.

Personally I prefer B&B version, but Anthem version will be better for the lack of horns.
If I can figure out Audacity and can make my voice sound better I could try singing. It's just a thought. I'm not doing it for sure.

We could always try the school. Talk to Ms. Horner and get in there during 4th lunch sometime.

I can also do it at home too.
True.
And if it's a fairly easy song I could do drums and steal the drums from the music room.:p

People say I am an ok singer, so if we pick a song I know I could send a sample of my voice and see if you guys like it but I really don't know if it will be very good but I could record it I have a mic.
If we are going to a Blink song I might be down for trying out some vocals. I kind of want to et into vocals, and I think I can do some Blink pretty good. I'll also do guitar if no one else wants to do it.
I really wish I had a good singing voice. It would be so much more handier.
DJ Ducksauce
01-15-2006, 09:17 PM
If we do blink and I get a decent mic, I could do Mark vocals. Guitar too.
Yeah, I'm totally game for doing vocals, but I've never really sang before so I may sound bad at first. I want to use this as a sort of practise.

01-15-2006, 11:15 PM
i could sing but it depends on what song everyone choses
I can also do second guitar or vocals, depending on the song.
And I think instead of doing some simple popular song, it should at least be a band that's still somewhat known and liked but really showcases the talent of the players.

Right, I will do guitar (lead or rhythm) and vocals if necessary, although I'm not that great a singer so I'd rather someone else would.
I can also program drums. If I put my programmed drum part for Basket Case on YSI, who else wants to do it?
EDIT: I also have a drum part for 'What Would You Do' (The Living End) if anyone knows that and would like to play on it.

No need to polish it up or anything, that's just how it is. I played along with the record, so that should be fine. If everyone does that, it'll probably go along faster too. We wouldn't have to wait for everyone to finish theirs up I think.

It doesn't want to be perfect, it should be different. If we cover a song exactly the same, it will suck.
I know, that was my point.
I think it might be neat to the You Alone by the Street Dogs. Other suggestions I have are: Anthem part 2, Rock Show, Stay Together for the Kids, and Another Girl Another Plant all by Blink 182 (I'm not saying to all of them, those are the ones I think we could do well by Blink). I'm sure J will do bass for the Blink song. So you're set I guess.
Me and Justin can get someone to program the drums for Coheed if needed, but we need a bassist, and I think it'll sound better with two guitars, so even if it's a bit harder it'll sound better. Unless you want to do more than one, which I'm up for.

Right, uploading the First Date drum track now. Annoyingly, my computer has decided that Scratch actually consists of an endless series of full-bar rests, which means that unless I sit down and re-do it (which I will, if enough people want it) it can't be done. First Date is still there though, and after the drums I believe that leaves 2 guitar parts (lead and rhythm in the intro, one only in the verse, and lead and rhythm in the middle), bass, and vocals. I'll happily do either guitar part, so any takers for the others?

Yeah, I'd love to do Scratch. The only thing that bothers me is that it takes ages to program a drum part, and I sure as hell can't play it. And then I'd probably upload it and get ignored again.
But if people volunteer themselves to do the necessary parts I will consider it.
Edit: See my First Date drums.

Just to be unselfish, I'll do the rhythm parts for this (ie. chords in the intro and verse, and the palm-muted parts in the middle section), so if someone else (Justin, I'm looking at you) can do the lead parts (ie. the intro riff, the palm-muted B in the verse, and the slidey octaves in the middle section, plus the chorus chords) that would be nice.
And we need a bassist (I'm sure we can find plenty) and a vocalist. I'm happy to mix it all if you send me your parts seperately to j88_ftm@yahoo.co.uk , but if we have someone who'd like to do the mixing I'll happily hand it over to them.

No..I've gotta' do the drum track, which is gonna' maybe take me some time. I've gotta' wait for the chance to record. I was supposed to do it yesterday because I had school off but my little sister ended up staying home from Kindergarten :( So it was too loud to record. I'd do it now, but I'm faking sick and my mom should be home pretty soon, and I'd prefer not to be caught drumming when I'm supposed to be sick.

I'm happy to do both. As far as I know Jamie is doing bass, and Justin is doing the lead guitar parts, for First Date, and I'm doing rhythm parts. We still need a singer, and I haven't recieved any recordings from either of them yet.
I do still wanna do the Living End one as well if I can find any takers.

James I owe it to you from the last band thing you tried to put togather. I shall do whatever you would like.
