Yup, I have been to the mountain top and I am back in the valley to let one and all know this is a great film. About a gay relationship but not a gay themed movie exactly, it's skillfully directed by Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Hulk, Ride With The Devil, and the Ice Storm are among his credits) and never get's heavy-handed or preachy. And except for the fact the two main characters are gay, they are guys any straight cowboy worth his horse can relate to. I predict Oscar win for film, actor (Ledger) and adapted screenplay.
So come on out of the movie going closet, put on a disguise, and go to your local theater and check it out. You won't be disappointed. If you watched the Birdcage, listen to Judas Priest, and/or don't get your manhood threatened by seeing two guys make out, you can watch this, too.
And don't be put off by all the gay crap you see coming out of Hollywood these days on T.V. Yes it's overkill, but this is something completely different. Any fan of good storytelling and great filmaking can appreciate this movie. Highly recommended.
Discuss Brokeback Mountain. Or at least admit you want to see it. Just a little...:p

I think it's easily one of the best of 2005.

No doubt. Unfortunately it's run into a lot of backlash. I knew the religious-right and more conservative might have a problem with it. That's pretty much par for the course. But I must admit I too had my reservations upon first seeing the trailer. It looked good, but so much television has become "homocentric" these days I was initially put off to seeing it. I sort of got a "just another gay thing" vibe at first. As did some people I spoke to about it. But after learning Ang Lee directed and reading a bit about the film, I decided not to be deterred. And I'm glad, because a better film in recent memory I have not seeing.

I was told that while the acting is very good and the cinematpgraphy is excellent, the story is slow. Is that true? I'm thinking about going to see it.

^Well it is a bit long at 134 min, and like many love stories/romantic dramas it does lag in places, I didn't find it particularly slow. Although it does take it's time telling it's story, boring doesn't come to mind at all. Here is a good link with quotes from many of the nations top critics. It's not a perfect film, but like many good films it's flaws eventually work in it's favor.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it, but it seems to me like it's doing so well because it's so hyped.

It got banned from my State, I love our open-minded Citizens.
And then they get insulted when everyone thinks were red-neck inbread retards.

Seriously though, it looks good. I'm not a fan of the genre though, so I'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD, instead of trying to find the time to go right as my semester starts.

WHAT?!?! By the government, or by theaters?
I remember hearing that a couple of theater chains (I think) in Alabama refused to show it.

Yeah.
It can't be banned in a state though.
"wait until it shows up on tv then i'll consider it" material for me.

I really want to see it, but I get strange looks from my friends whenever I mention wanting to see "the gay cowboy movie".

Or we could "get together" to end your pathetic life. I've got a friend who can get rid of bodies real efficiently.

I can't quit you!
Horrible movie, it was slow, the story didn't even capture my attention, I was bored to the point that I wanted to see them both die some a bloody death. Heath's side burns towards the end were disgusting.
The random anal sex at the start shocked me. As much of a hottie Jake Gylaralorlroewaro is I do not want to see his member or bum crack.
I'm very open minded about movies and I do not mind gay people at all but it seemed to me this was just a "omg look at this Cowboys being gay even though they get married" and the part were they make out right outside Heaths house is just dumb, who is seriously that dumb of course he's wife is going to look outside and see what they are doing... I liked the movie up till that point then after that I just didn't care for it.

People are so close-minded. Everyone here is like "gay cowboy movie lol" I haven't seen it and am not that interested but I don't see why people care so much because there are gay characters in it. "Oh look someone different than me I hate them." Seems to be a lot of people's opinion. Stupid rednecks.
