my tama rockstar came with paiste 101 cymbals and i've just bought my first decent cymbal today - a 16" sabian aax metal crash. no doubt this isn't everyone's cup of tea as it's not the most versatile, but it should work well for me and my band. anyway i also bought a mapex forge xl boom stand and my question is this...
do i need to use felts with the mapex stand to protect the cymbal? it ships with like a rubber thing which i think may be there instead of a felt, but i don't want to use my new sabian until i'm sure it's ok to do so without felts.
thanks

Use felts on the bottom and top. The plastic or rubber thing is probably the sleeve that you cymbal should be touching instead of the metal. You don't want metal on metal.
use the bottom felt for sure. use the top felt too if you have the wingnuts on the top.

There are these new lumps of rubber which supposedly get the most out of your cymbals. i got them with my mapex kit. they work fine!

i think skarabbit might be right
i got a sleeve and then 2 rubber things - one goes under the cymbal and one goes above the cymbal but below the wing nut
i did take a picture for you but for some reason the attachment button isn't working for me
so, are the rubber things there instead of the felts? so can i start using it?!
thanks

The things they put on mapex stands are great. Use the rubber things
