Has anyones kit set up been inspired or affected by some of their favorite drummers or things of that nature... either how they set it up or the sound they go for/gear they use. I think I may be alone in saying that my kit (rather simple 4-piece) is very opposite of most of the drummers I listen to (massive metal kits). It's just extremely comfortable for me and sounds great.
So yeah, what about you guys, examples are good.
I built my kit on what i like. I didnt really follow anyone. My setup is rather simple and the cymbals i just chose something that would mix will with eachother.

Yes, I just thought of the classic example:
How loads of people got that classic Ringo kit (or one like it) when they saw that infamous show. Also how many people started setting up their kit like Bonham in Led Zepps glory days (and still to this day).

I set my kit up the way it is because its comfortable and easy to move around the drums. Thats what it should be like IMO

For a while I always wanted a kit like some of my favorite drummers. But after playing a while I just set the kit up for the music I play and for what is comfortable for me. I still like certain things on others kits and may copy them, but not a whole setup.

I'm gonna set my kit up like Portonys small kit but with a double bass instead of double pedal.

I try tune my kit to sound like some I hear. Not because they're my favourite drummer but because its a sound I like and want.

His smaller kit. Are you talking about his right side (from his seat) of the siamese monster/albino monster/whatever it is now? Because I'm pretty sure that is just one bass drum. Oh and he actually calls that his Boham kit often. It's the same dimensions and everything.
edit:misread, don't listen to what I said about bass drums.

I like to follow barker's drumset, clean, tight, simple, large sound gaps

i play a kit that resembles Tommy Aldridge's kit altho it is just a rather typical "doublebass power metal" setup. i find this setup to be the most comfortable and natural for me to play, not too much ~ not too little. been playing this same configuration since '82 and still have no desire to change it.

no. I'm talking about the one with 3 rack tom, a 14 floortom, and a 16 floor tom on left of snare/hats.

ThugsRock - Im assuming the bass batters are those ones where you dont need anything inside or do you just like the high echoey sound?

yep, the batter heads are Remo PS4 and they have built in tone rings. the reso heads are PS3 types and they also have tone rings built into them.
the overall sound is big & fat but doesnt have hardly any resonation.

My setup was kind of inspired by chad smiths, only really the one up and 2down thing, i liked the look of it and it feels great to play. And I like to be able to see out instead of having to toms up in front of you, my rack is nice and low

I was majorly inspired by my teacher who teached me the importance of an ergonomic setup.

My setup is inspired by every emo drummer who ever existed.
No I am not...Dave Lombardo uses Tama and I don't like tama.
Peter Dragt uses Remo (yes, a remo kit) and Sonor, and I don't have anything with both brands.

I have alwayts changed my kit around every month or so since I had it.
I always change because ofsomeone else's kit I see and I think that I have to try it out to see what it's like. A few of my all time faves though are:
Dave Weckl 1998: http://www.drummerworld.com/pics/drum/dpa22/DaveWeckl6.jpg
Thomas Lang 1993: http://www.artport.at/sticktrix/images/TL_set1.jpg
I'm currently digging the simple 3 or 4 piece set-ups at the moment.
My setup is inspired by every emo drummer who ever existed.

I'd say its inspired by a number of extreme drummers, particularly Hellhammer (Inspired the higher ride position, although I don't have it as high as he does), Gene Hoglan (For the ambidextrous 2 ride, 2 hihat setup), Inferno (for the more "wall of cymbals" approach, Derek Roddy (For the aux hihat position, and also the tom setup) ,and also Neil Peart, (For positioning the snare properly at bellybutton height)

Well sure I've gotten various ideas for different placements of things from many drummers, but for the most part my set up is mine. I don't try to set it up like someone else's kit.

He doesnt NEED something in it...he needs it tuned.

I tried tuning it and theres was still an extremely long sustain so I put my friends coat and jumper in it and it gave a really nice thud.

Im pretty sure thats the bigger side in both siamese and albino monster kits.
Does this also mean you'll be getting Octobans? *drool* if only i could afford them...
Also note Portnoy uses custom tom sizes like 8x8, 9x9 etc..
oh and take a look at the article on his new Albino Monster kit on the Tama website. I wish i went to see them in october to see this beast.
