Me and my dad are about to start the project of making our own drumrack, be cause i dont have enough money to buy one and this will be loads cheaper. He had a wielding and exercise equipment making company, so he will be able to weld it with me and send it to get powdercoated so that it lasts longer...

Just one question. I was wondering if any of you could give me the length around the tubes on your drumracks. In other words, take a tape measure and measure around to see how thick the pipe is.. Thanks in Advance

that sounds like an interesting project. I havn't heard of a home-made rack before but it could be done. You should go to your local store and maybe measure one out just so youknow for sure what you want.

the usual pipe lengths for the front i beleive are 40-42 inches. as for thickness i think its 1 and a half to 2 inches thick.

Yeah. certain things like cymbals/drums/etc. are always a little sketchy to make, lots can go wrong. With a rack, ya just gotta make sure it holds up and doesn't look half bad! Good choice and good luck. I'm always happy to hear about people creating their own music-related gear.

It should be pretty simple for just a basic one. Good luck and post pics!

The rack itself can probably be done, but you'll still have to invest in clamps and such to hold tom arms, cymbal boom arms, and ect. Sounds cool though good luck.

if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's, you can get the bars for really cheap. get some 1.5" OD piping and use gibraltar's clamps! works perfect, real cheap, and you could powdercoat it any color under the sun. i thuoght aobut it but there aren't powdercoaters around here.

my vertical bars are 30" and my horizontal bars are 42" FYI.

Are you the same guy who made a snare out of the kitchen windowsill?

If not, it seems that everyone's dad here has great enthusiasm in making drum parts for their son/daughter! Grrrrr...

powder coat is were they coat it in what ever color and make it more durable to wear and use (i think)

what metal are you going to be using? i know someone who made a rack out of iron. it has 2 "tiers" too. im amazed it stands up. when fully loaded, it takes a good 6 people to move it.

i feel sorry for terrys drum tech

actually, terry is very envolved with the setup and tuning of his kit, its just him and one other guy who do the whole thing, and they split the work pretty evenly with setup/take down. the tech does the basic tuning then terry fine tunes everything.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they heat the metal and dip it in a very fine plastic powder (I also just think)
