Well yeah. I was thinking of trying to make a cymbal, doesn't have to be like a b20 alloys or w/e just of any type I have available. My friends brother is a mechanic and they got a new wielding machine(or something like that) and he used to make a hockey post. I was thinking about having him mix whatever kind of metals he has I'll give him some basic outlines to do it and then I can get a hammer or something to hammer it.
Think it'll work?
and I'm not saying will it sound like an A custom I'm just saying will it be a playable cymbal, because then I'll give him more detailed outlines for like smaller cymbals and just mess around hammering them.

didn't you post this elsewhere.
I told you that a welder and a mechanic aren't the appropriate resources.
Welding machines can weld metal... Mechanics can figure out how to make things work.
You would need a blacksmith or some other metalworker
that seems like a good idea. try making some small splashes. that would make some awesome effects cymbals to make by yourself. Use some metal that is really crappish for a trashy sound ha.

No I never posted this before.
And why not, I would make a big metal circle with proper sizes and dimensions then hammer away.
AZNriceball i meant, Idk, I guess I need advice on what I would need to do to lathe it.

This idea is a little old but I'm pretty sure I never made this thread before. If I did I don't remember the responses. Maybe someone else is trying to hijack my idea

lol...nah. Let's keep it going. We'll pretend that thread doesn't exist.
hmm... maybe you could cut some sheet metal in a circular fashion at a local hardware store and then hand hammer it yourself.

You need the facilities to actually cast the metal into shape, or at least a huge lathe and a sheet of bronze. Either way, expensive, and i'd reckon pretty much impossible to make sound good.
Actually on thinking about it, a splash might not be toooooo hard to make, maybe worth a try.

I tried hammering a cymbal once and I just cracked it. No worries though it was a B8.

u could see what equipment ur school has (if u go to school that is),
our D&T department has a good sized furnace, lots of hammers, and a couple of lathes big enough to work on a splash i'd say, and heck you could prob steal some metal from them too ;)

I think you would have to use a certain kind of hammer also, not just the kind you have sitting at home.

Well what if he has the right kind sitting at home?...then he'd have to go out and buy the wrong kind?

Jim made a thread about how to make your own chinas. You need a ball peen hammer and some thin sheet metal and just hammer away.

I created the original of this, you even posted in it and it was TODAY!
Anyway, it wont work the equipment costs so much you might as well go and buy a load of A Customs.
However, the school theory is very good and sneaky. And best of all free! Its a shame I dont know the head of DT.

well i've rehammered a cymbal and let me tell you, unless you have the equipment to refinish, it'll sound **** and not worth trying to do.
