I have been using an EQ3 black reso on my bass drum for a while and I wanted to try for a new look and a new sound so I ordered a clear attack single ply reso and one of those 6 inch bass drum o's so I can port it. I was wondering, if I port it directly in the center of the head how would it sound compared to an offset port? Would there be more attack and less resonance?

yes in the center means less resonance and a shorter sound, the bigger the hole, the less the resonance.

the center is the worst place you end up loosing alot of rebound as well as resonance

I'd say companies offset it for a reason. you could have tried to cut your own port hole too. Many people on here have but I remember somone screwing up terribly

I went off by about half an inch when I first tried on my mapex stoxk reso. Not hard to fix, just used some electricians tape to reinforce it.

Well its said that anything over 7'' is like not having a reso head on your drum at all.

I read that already dude. It didn't say much about having the port in the center of the head. Doesn't matter anymore anyways cause I already ported my new head offset instead of center.

Perhaps by morons.
A 7" hole is aprox. 20% of the head. Leaving 80% of the head.. a rather large amount. It's not uncommon to use two 6" ports. I have that on a few heads myself. Two 6" ports is obviouslly much more then one 7" port.
The ports more or less effective based on how close to the center of the head it is. Other then that, it's mostly looks.

It is the area of the hole that counts. Where it is located matters little for the affect on sound (as long as it isn't on the batter side).
Going by the information given on this site, it is the size of the hole that matters the most for sound...
Any pics of your new bass reso head?

Would a 2" hole do anything?

If you want maximum tone out of the head, then the size of each hole needs to be in the 1-2” size, and they need be placed closer to the perimeter, but not placed so the edge of the hole is closer than about 1” to the break for the bearing edge.
