I decided to send an email to the MPA. Even though it made no difference, and they didn't reply I still had fun sentding it. I thought I would share it with everyone. Enjoy.

Hello,

My name is Pete. I am emailing you in regards to your recent legal actions taken against tab sites, specifically Mxtabs.net. First off, I am a drummer and have been playing since 1996. It is important to note that I have NEVER and will NEVER buy sheet music. I have and will always rely on tabs to learn songs. I also play saxophone and piano, so I know how to read music, its just that I don't want to buy it. See, I'm very cheap and tabs are just so convenient for those specific songs I want. Lets face it, why should I buy the book for the entire album when all I want it one song. Next, I want to compare your actions to those that Metallica took against Napster back in the day, because, lets face it, its the same thing. People were downloading free songs and Metallica and a few other bands decided to speak up about it. Sure Napster was shut down temporarily and now you must pay to download songs from them, but lets look at the other outcomes. The fall of Napster sparked millions of people to find other ways to download files. Now there are programs such as Kazaa and Limewire which let you download software and video along with music. (I'm downloading Windows XP, songs, and SAW II...come throw me in jail). The only things that their lawsuit achieved was Napster started to charge for downloads, and a few thousand lost fans. Now, back to your little circus act. You can't win. We will continue to share tabs unspoiled. As Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said after the attacks of Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." This is all that you have done. You just pissed off a few thousand people who share tabs and will rebel with more rage than before. You can't win, you won't will and you never will. And for what its worth, if people weren't going to buy sheet music before, they sure as hell aren't going to buy it now.

~Pete

Ultimate Guitar Archive, BassMasta, Metaltabs, Hottest Tabs. Just use 911tabs.com they are a search engine of all up and running tablature sites.

/Prays that this post doesn't get them shut down.

If they do reply, either by email or SWAT team, let us know. I'll send an angry letter to them too if they bust down your front door :thumb:

next time you might want to add paragraphs and check your spelling. Also, by stating that downloading music is the same as using tabs, you just commend them for being right. either way, your heart is in the right place... :thumb:

Gotta give ya points for that one, but bas is right. You're just basically telling them they're right. Once again, though, you've got it right in the head.

Also, OLGA's still up - even after getting threatened by EMI a few years back, I believe. Same with Ultimate-Guitar. What's MX got that none of those sites do? OLGA's straight up tabs, no music reviews - tab tab tab. Ultimate Guitar provides reviews of gear, music, and lessons. Same thing with MX. What's the difference here? Why are they only going after MX?

And also, to Pete, I'd like to say that they didn't piss off a few thousand of us, they probably pissed off every registered forum-goer x 5.

The MPA doesn't care.
Seriously, stop sending them stupid crap like this.
You think you can threaten them? They don't give a crap about you, you're some 13 year old punk kid who thinks he can circumnavigate simple law.
Do you even think?
You're not representative of the worlds musical population, whilst you might carry on stealing artists income. The rest of the world might not. You can still get free mp3s, but look how many people legally buy them.
You can't fight the MPA. Especially not when you're in breach of the law and they are enforcing it.
You can be a rebel and share tabs unspoiled all you want, you only represent a small portion of the world that happens to be mentally handicapped. The fact is, there will be a big jump in people who do buy it.
Professional musicians such as session artists, do not use tab.

Seriously, all of you 13 year old punk rebels.
Stop emailing the MPA. They are legally correct.
Go to the politics and world issues forum, there was a thread on it in there. Read that before you post back with some crap about how you think you get to steal peoples work.

I know, some f*cking dumbasses were emailing the MPA about powertabs when powertabs wasn't even down. Powertab took itself down so it would slip under the radar, and then a bunch of fags email the MPA whining about how they can't find the bass tab for Blink 182- Carosel anymore.

You don't matter, and no one cares about your opinion. MPA probably stick all emails with "Napster" "Metallica" and "tabs" in a big junk folder, because they are legally right. You, aren't, so stop trying to be hard.

What makes you think they are going to care about a person who acknoeldges they never have been, or will be, a customer?

Because that's the law.

blah blah blah blah
I'm too tired of this crap to continue so I'll resort to petty name calling. You're a homo.

What the hell are you on about?
I think he does represent a huge amount of people, there are millions of people around the world who do, and will continue to get music and tabs for free off the internet.

Theres no way that anyone can justify the MPA's desicion as being justified. If any artists are making comments in a few years time about how their recent sales of tab books has benefited them greatly and "allowed them to make a living", then I'll admit I was wrong about the situation, but lets face it, its not going to happen.

In fact has anyone heard a single comment from an artist saying that they agree with the MPA's actions?

To me, we're not stealing an artist works. All the tabs created were by people which have no relations with the artist and they were just doing it as a hobby. They may even do it to boast their talent of "immitating" an artist's song. In any case, its really for the benefit of the masses around the world.

So?
There will also be a few million who buy more sheet music. Thus the MPA have bettered their and the artists situation.
You can still get mp3's illegally, but the numbers of people paying to download has risen.

Ok then, if you can currently live off your paycheck at the moment with enough money for luxuries, I'll be taking that money and giving it to the poor. Because obviously you don't think the artists deserver the money from their work.

In fact has anyone heard a single comment from an artist saying that they agree with the MPA's actions?

In fact do you understand how publishers operate?
Obviously not because if you did, you wouldn't have posted this last comment.

You are stealing.
Intellectual property. Basicly the owner of the intellectual property (the songs) has the right to dictate who can and can't use them. You cannot tab their work without legal permission, even if it's barely accurate.

Lets face it, why should I buy the book for the entire album when all I want it one song.

Here's an idea, google.

http://www.musicnotes.com/ You can download entire books, or just single pieces of music.
