Anyone ever play one of these?
My guitarist wants to spend all his money on one... Instead of on recordgin equipment or whatever...
BUt it's his money, so anyone have any good/bad experiences playing one?

I've heard it's incredibly difficult to actually play the theremin with any discipline.
They are cool for a little while to make those spooky noises, but as far as actually playing they take LOTS of practice. YOu have to have a great ear, because there isn't even a reference point for you to tell what note you are playing. There are very few people that can play them very well. Even Bob Moog himself had very limited ability on it. If your guitarist is looking for anything besides noise, and isn't looking to put in hours upon hours of study I'd try to turn him away.

Yeah, I played a theremin once. It's pretty damn cool, but really hard to get. The guy who let me play it, however, said I was pretty good for a first timer.

My friend has played one. He said it's quite an experience.

a bowed saw sounds like a theremin. Think of it like of like an acoustic theremin. i need a bow and a musical saw.
