View Full Version : Schecter C-4
Hey.
im thinking about purcahsing a Schecter C-4, i played one today at guitar center, but, i needed my parent to trade my old stuff in, and im just curious on some things.
1) Doe they have a funny acoustic sound, or was it just the poor setup of the Guitar Center bass? it sounded pretty high pitch, kinda like fret buzz but i dont know.
2) Is it worth the money that im going to be paying for it?
3) How easy is the tone shaping abilites of the instrument?
and finally
4) How hard are they to set up, and should i get one from a store or the internet?

1) Not sure.
2) You haven't told us, but I assume so.
3) Easy (if I understand the question correctly)
4) I always try to get a bass I played personally, but that's me...

without an amp schecters usually sound really trebbly, but a different set of strings and/or an anywhere near decent eq can fix it. a setup shouldn't be too difficult to do yourself, but i would never trust myself to touch the truss rod. i'm kind of a klutz and have a tendancy to **** things up

1) no. it depends on ur amp and the settings of the bass.
2)yes i assume under $500
3)its very easy it goes like this(if u look directly at the bass)i think:
knob: volume bridge pickup
knob:bass knob: volume neck pickup
knob: treble
4)well i like to play a bass before i get it. i picked from three different ones of the same style when i bought my schecter
Peace

I actually might be getting a C-4 too.
They look pretty nice, I am going to go into the shop to play it as soon as I get a chance.

I got myself a Schecter Custom-5 Diamond Series... I love it. Probably of all the basses I've ever played, it's the one I like the most. I liked it the most before I bought it. (yes, this is including basses like String rays and such). I love it, and it wasn't too crazy expensive. Got myself a nice 4-inch wide Onori strap.
What I love is the fact that it's so light. I was playing a Mexican Fretless Jazz Bass, so playing something a little smaller than a Volkswagon Bug feels lighter than that.
1.) For a while, I had that buzz. My action was really awesome on it, so I didn't want to mess with the bridge. So, I put new strings on it, and the action remained about the same, now they don't rattle.
2.) Yes, it's worth the money. Don't know what you're paying for it, but hey. I could have gotten mine for probably 100+$ cheaper if I waited an extra day. A local music store near my house had a nice Red C-5 and I was going to buy it. Came back, and found out the store was robbed and lost like all their basses. The store kept telling me they ordered one, I waited like a month, got sick of it, drove to guitar Center, paid 550 (talked em down paying 550 flat for the bass, it was originally that, but with taxes woulda been a bit more). I got a call from the music store a day later, telling me they got my Schecter in. Oh well, I like mine better. Pretty, and gold fixtures :-D. ANYWAY, tangent over.
3.) Tone is a tad weird to work with. You can get some AWESOME tones out of it. Just takes some fiddling.
4.) I'd be hesitant to buy something I haven't played in real life. So, I'd recommend getting the one in the store.
What would be the biggest fear of buying an instrument ive never played?
If it is just setup, i can do that myself.
Edit: What style (finger, slap, tap, pick) do you owners play?

They sound trebly acoustic, thats because of the wood, the pickups, and the strings they come equipped with.
I own one, and I personally will say I liked it better than the Elite-4 and Custom-4. I would have bought a Studio-4 thou.
Tone shaping is easy, you pretty much have 3 modes for your pickups, All Neck, All Bridge, or Blended. Then you have your bass and treble. I leaving everything flat for what I'm playing, Blend the pickups for slap, All Neck for Tap, and All Bridge for finger.
All Schects should be set up perfectly and ready to go when you buy them.
Eh, the one i played was pretty messed up so i think the setup was bad.
They come with Nanowebs, correct?
Also: How would the pickup blend work. Would more bridge be like, more punch?
Could someone explain the difference between bridge and neck pickups please? Im coming off a squire P, im not even used to having 2 pickups, let alone, 4 knobs to play with

Bridge: More treble and growl
Neck: More bass and thump

I cant really answer your Qs. But I heard something that the MM style pickup is not really that good and the buzzing thing you mentioned is caused by that.
DO NOT count on that though, look into it further.

you and another poster blames the pickups for the buzz, but why would they cause buzz when played acousticly, the pickups only take the signal from the vibration of the strings and sends them to the amp. blaming the pickups make no sense.
as for the c4, i plan on buying one soon. its a great bass. the tone shaping is good and the controls are awesome. the neck is extremely fast and thin (some may not like how thin it is because its super thin). when i tried it out at the store for the millionth time, i set the amps eq to flat and i just fiddled with the bass's eq and i got all the tones i needed. try it out with the amps eq flat and just play with the bass's eq.

If pickups were the problem, cannot they be like... lowered?
In an acoustic environment, pickups CANNOT cause buzz, unless they are too high and they are touching the strings.
