Pretty good!!
I liked phase the best, i liked the wee phrases you did, and the scratching was class! Quite origional, space-age kinda feel to it/ sounded good:thumb:
The second on sounded quite impressive, those harmonics really gave it life, reminded me of wooten a bit.
And your slap in johalalapapapapapa or watever was was cool, thought it needs a backing track.
Good work man, i like it!
Edit: the link doesnt work, you gotta copy it to the adress bar

wow, thanks guys for the feedback- i put a lot of time and effort into my music, and for people to even kinda dig it is pretty cool. as for equiptment, people always ask me where the hell i get my tone from. its my 1995 warwick neck-thru thumb bass. its wierd, thats really the only bass i can play (i dont like the new ones as much). its got a nice fat neck, small string spacing, 26 frets, and two pickups that are incredible for being stock. i dont have any pedals, and my amp settings are usually really flat. any tone adjustment i do with the various knobs on the bass.
once again, i appreciate you guys listening!

screw them, i want to hear it.

Absolutely amazing tune, great use of the harmonics. The end was a bit abrupt though.
Edit: Changed my mind. Phase was quite groovy actually, some pretty wicked chops on Jan too.

You stole some loops from Garageband in phase:confused:

Some nice stuff there, my apology is a lovely track, kind of like Victor Wooten meets Steve Lawson.
The only negative thing I will say is that a lot of it sounds a bit too much like Wooten, Jan and Johallapalapapus, especially, they sound as if Wooten wrote them and the tone is very Wootenesque. While they are great pieces you might want to explore more things to add to your style to avoid developing into someone whose playing will make people think "That sounds like he is playing Wooten."
Basically keep trying to develop your own sound than borrowing the sound of another. But otherwise good stuff. :thumb:

By the way, your stuff is incredible. I really dig your tone. I agree with katana, though; your slap song reeks of Wooten. It's great, don't get me wrong, but you might want to try to develop your own sense of style. Add a nice, groovy slap song in there, similar to "Power" by Marcus Miller but with a few harmonics and stuff...really try to set yourself apart.
You're really good, man, and I hope to see you start posting on here more often...or else! :thumb:

you know its funny you guys all think i sound like victor, because i personally am not a fan of victors and I hear a world of difference in my sound- but i can most definetely see where you dudes are coming from. its impossible for me to 'grow into my own sound', because this is my sound right now (it will most likely change many times in my life, i am once again only 19). all of those songs were on the spot recordings that i improvised out of impulse and REALLY meant. im not a guy out to impress or to have any shock value in my songs, i truly feel these songs when i play them (if you saw me live youd know what i mean... i look REALLY stupid with my dances and singing, quite funny). what im trying to say is that its cool if you think i sound like vic, or if you think i completely suck balls and am not original- but it is what it is and i assure you it is very honest.
thanks for listening!!

i have a mac with garageband and digital performer- but its all direct input with flat eq settings. like i said before, any tone adjustments i do on my bass and not the computer, i think it sounds ALOTTTTT better that way. the song with samples "phase" is nothing really. i took a couple tracks that i made from other songs i recorded, my oxygen 8 midi controller, along with some samples that are in the program garageband (there are thousands of really cool beats and such) and i came up with that groove. it originally was made as a song i would practice soloing over and stuff, but a friend of mine really liked it and told me to put it on the site-

really awesome, i love the tone of the Warwick, as you know i plan to get one my self. sounds very great, sounds very influenced by a certain bass player named vic wooten. but you keep it original enough to your own sound which is awesome

Your own sound refers to having something identifiable as being you rather than strongly reminding a listener of another musician. This might be your sound at the moment, but in time you will develop your own style, licks etc which will be unique (or as is possible) to yourself.
Maybe it wasn't a conscious thing making a sound like Wootens, but it may be a good idea to analyse what you do musically, compare it to some Wooten and see if you can perhaps distance yourself a little from that, because the two solo slap pieces are extremely Wooten like, it is uncanny. The stuff is good though, but I think a lot of people might think you are trying to be a Wooten clone if that is the style you being to delve into the most. But anyway, it's just a bit of advice mate, your own sound will develop in time. Again, good work.

dude... you dont get the point man!!! what i play i hear in my head. okay? i feel it in my soul, it IS me. I can't change that right now consciously because that would be me being very dishonest with the listener. I am VERY intense about my music and its cool if you hate it or whatever, but all of those songs mean something to me. they are NOT to get wooten fans to dig my ****. Look man, tell all your friends and all the people in the world how terrible i am because im a copycat, WHATEVER. just dont ****in sit there and tell me that i need to work on my originality and "licks" because thats not even an issue with me. the only thing i care about is playing that phrase i hear in my head.

sorry for the harsh reaction, i get zoned. but thank you katana for your honesty, it is much appreciated and thank you for listening. i guess i cant expect to put my music on the web and not have someone shoot it down, its part of the game. much love katana, just needed some venting.

Ok then, fair enough. I am not saying that you are trying to copy him, I am merely saying it might be an idea if the stuff you come up with does end up sounding very similar to another player it might be good to try and distance yourself from that a little to try and create a more original style people will recognise as being yours. I am not trying to put down your music at all, I even said in my last post that you sounding like Wooten could be completely inadvertant.
All I was doing was making some suggestions to further improve yourself, but if this is your style that you are completely comfortable with then fair enough, I was only trying to give some advice, if you don't wanna take it, that's cool, but I am not trying to put you down in anyway so chill. I even said I liked your stuff, jeez.
Edit (for your post after that which I am quoting): It's kool man, again I am not trying to bring it down, I was just making a suggestion and I think we both misunderstood each other a bit. It is good stuff, it just reminds me a heck of a lot of Wooten, but if this is the music you hear in your head then absolutely fair enough, go for it.

I agree.
A lot of people tell me I have an unoriginal slap style and I sound too much like Wooten.
but, I am playing everythgin with pure honesty and that is exaclty what I hear in my head. If I try and conciously make a deciison of changing it, then it won't be pure feel.

True to a point, every musician is continually developing. At some point we will come across a sound we like that will often be like another well known bassists and we naturally write in that style, but since you had to develop into that style it is possible to develo into another.
At the moment I am in a similar boat when it comes to tapping, when I write a piece it sounds very reminiscent of tapping pieces Wooten composes, but I keep looking and feeling around for something that is different. At first it can be a tricky process and a long one finding a unique sound but it just takes time and depends on what sort of stuff you learn. At first it might not feel natural but it will later.
Look at someone like Wooten, his style came about by listening to loads of different bass players and musicians and eventually forging his own unique sound from all these other parts.
If someone trying to find their voice or rather a style they are comfortable with hears someone like Wooten, it might only be a few times but sometimes that gets stuck in their sub conscious and they write in a style very similar to that player. My tapping stuff sounds similar to Wooten's though I am not actually trying to sound like him. But developing your own sound over time which makes other people recognise you when they hear a piece of yours can be very rewarding.
So I'm not saying it is a bad thing to sound like someone at the moment, but it can be a good thing to eventually come up with your own unique style in the long run after accumulating a lot of musical experience.
So anyway, I don't wanna continue saying that someone should find their own unique style, as it is up to the musician if and when they start forging their own. But at the end of the day, good music Erik. (I think that's your name?)
Sorry I didnt like any of that man.
It just seemed like bass you know? Nothing new or original that hasnt been heard before.
Dont get me wrong, What you've got sounds good but its just not to my tastes.
