View Full Version : Overdrive? Distortion? Or even fuzz?

Is that how's it's called? Fuzz?

Well anyways. Cut the crap, I don't want your technicalities, because I'm too lazy to figure out what it means.

I am mainly a blues bass player. I love classic rock (Cream, Led Zeppelin, blah blah), and love to improvise on the 12-bar blues rhythm. My sound often sounds a bit well... meh, and I feel a nice effect would serve me.

The flanger was nice, but it's not my style, so I sold it. I also have the wah for those thick phat sounds, but I'm looking for the warm effect on a bass. The crooked feel, without it making it too metal.

What should I look into? Overdrives? Distortions? or Fuzz? I may end up buying it from ebay, as it is way cheaper than buying it new at a store, and I will proably try them, but El Paso doesn't have many music stores, so I can't rely on testing ALL of them here.

Suggestions?

overdrive, or if you have a tube amp you can just over drive the amp and get the same sound

yeah, i think traditionally OD is what's used in that sort of stuff.......

i get some good OD's with my sans amp Tech 21 GT2... tis for guitar but IMO pretty great...

The Tech 21 Sansamp is probably a good bet. Also look into guitar overdrive pedals like the Ibanez Tubescreamer.

I've had the bad experience of guitar pedals eating up my low-end. I'm a guy who is constantly going up and down the neck when improving, so I don't want some strings to notes to sound "meh" compared to others.

I also thought about OD, but I mostly wanted to be sure. I'm thinking about the Boss Bass Overdrive, since I have good experiences with the guitar overdrive... but on e. guitar.

Any suggestions on a great OD for bass?

The Boss overdrive is great I tried it out the other day, I also tested out a Big Muff pedal running into a Cry Baby bass wah, it took the cake.
