I kinda like some of Utada Hikaru's stuff, I plan to get her English album but I'm not sure how good it is. I loved Deep River though. I like The Beatles but I guess they're considered Rock. Some artists like Kelly Clarkson and Robbie Williams are pretty respectable to me.

Why aren't Frank Zappa and Radiohead rock?
They are. They're both less general than the term "rock", but they're closer to it than anything.
I personally listen to a shitload of hiphop.
jimmie cullum, norah jones, Miles Davis, Mishka adams, buddy rich, guilty souls, ted serota's rebel souls...
obviously their all jazz....
maybe a little bit of micheal jackson. (his an idiiot though)

I listen to my cousin's beats, which are better than most hip hop stuff out there on tv.
Other than that, I used to listen to pop punk/power pop 2 years ago like Good charlotte, green day, blink 182, sum41, etc.. Haven't listened in a while though. Still like Rancid, which are punk or pop punk too.
I listen to Johnny Cash of course. And some other great country artists like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, etc..
I like some of BB King's stuff as well.
Ehh, stuff like that. :)

Why is this thread written out (first post, not replies, haven't read them all yet) like it would be strange to like something that isn't rock or metal?
I didn't think people on here only liked the one genre
I like Tori Amos (see picture), Kate Bush, Bjork, Jazz, Blues all sorts.

01-09-2006, 08:54 AM
Yeah, but I think it can be safely assumed that the point of the thread is artists who don't fit into Rock & Metal as a forum here.
I assumed he was talking about artists which have little or nothing to do with rock. It makes the thread far more interesting than huge lists of bands which are blatently rock bands, but happen to be pop as well, or are punk.
I listen to some trip hop, Massive Attack and Portishead occassionally. I have DJ Shadow's Entroducing, which is pretty cool. Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac arn't rock albums, so I'll include them here. Pop is far enough removed from rock in most cases, I listen to the odd pop song that my girlfriend is into, KT Tunstall, for example.
Other than that, everythings either Progressive, Metal, Rock or Pop. The odd punk band.
Kirk's Muppet
01-09-2006, 09:13 AM
Yeah, I really meant bands that have nothing to do with Rock/Metal. Punk, Hardcore, Emo, etc. are pretty much on the Rock side.
I also like Jazz Fusion too, like Shawn Lane; but I can never get into pure Jazz.

I like quite a few bands that I wouldn't consider rock....
The one that stands out most in Oingo Boingo- I really don't know what style of music they are, but it's great to listen to. Taking a trip into Danny Elfmans mind/band is great to experience, my favorite songs by them is "Just another day". I am sure most of you have heard of the band, but if you haven't, check them out.
