Who owns one? I want one so bad, I've seen them on eBay everywhere from about $500 to $1000. Every keyboard has a Rhodes patch but none of them do it any justice.

In this thread, we discuss the Fender Rhodes and how much I am obsessed with the sound and where you guys have seen good deals on them and if you own one, you take pictures of it and post it here so I can mast... look at it.

I had a round-top 88 back in the mid-70's and a flat-top 73 in the mid-80's. The old 88 chased me down a concrete stairwell at an arena gig. Ow. It had a really heavy action (hard on the fingers). The flat-top was easier on the back and the fingers. You're right - out of all my keyboards since then, I haven't yet found (or been able to build) a rhodes patch that comes close. Sorry, no pics.

The pre-owned music shop in my town had a real authentic Fender Rhodes... like a real one. I went to visit it every day until it went. It was the sadest day of my life.
You see that's what I do. I go to music shops and dribble over intruments I can't afford.

I've never even played one, but I would like to very, very much.

It has one of the nicest sounds I've ever heard. And I think, at least subconciously, we're all affected by its nostalgia factor, whether we were alive when they were produced or not.

I know a guy who owns a Rhodes. It was used at my school's talent show for a cover of "Karma Police" by Radiohead... It was sweet, but much too heavy to carry... I had to help them carry it out around. But it's totally awesome.

I once played a Rhodes for an instrumental song that a producer I'm working for was making. He played all the other instruments, but asked me to play Rhodes because I'm a better keyboardist than him. It was pretty cool. I want one now.

Well, I've said this before, but about 6 years ago my dad GAVE AWAY a Rhodes to one of the guys who works for him..... for free. When he told me about that, I was like:eek:

we've got one in college - kept in the studio though so not many people have access - which is probably a good thing.

Iv used it on a few tracks - love the sound but hate the feel to be honest

There's a bass one there for cheap, they'll take orders.

My friend got an 88 Fender Rhodes for $100. It sounds brand new, too.

Remember if you can't find one, there's always MrRay73 VSTi... which is free. :)

I used to do the same thing. I spent hours in numerous music shops trying out all the beautiful instruments never with intention of buying. I too love the sound of the fender rhodes but certainly don't have the money for even a 10th of one haha. Music shops are fantastic and depressing at the same time.

ive never played one myself but theyve got a killer sound...the heavy action sounds right up my alley, i can play alot more accurately when its not so easy to sound notes.

I love the rhodes! I really want a Rhodes Mark 1 stage 73. They have a great range of sounds.

This link has sound clips of the beast in 3 different EQ's: Mellow, normal and bright, not a bad player playing the examples either.
