View Full Version : Kit size poll
Tama_Drums

From what I can tell, a lot of you people that are posting pics of your kits have a typical 4 piece setup, with the ride really close in and all that. So I made this poll to kind of find out what type of kits dominates among us MX'ers, to see if my asumptions are true. Perhaps I will be surprised, but that'll make it even more interesting!
So please, vote for the kind of kit that you play on! I myself play on a 9 piece double bass kit, which I got the feeling of is not the most usual setup...)

i dig mostly 4 piece, ideally 14x7-8 snare, 12x8 rack tom, 16x16 floor tom and 24x18 bass, but if i feel like goin' 5 piece i just throw on an 18x16 floor tom(if i had one)

have a 6 piece, just a basic kit with an extra floor tom.
I think I really can't miss the extra floortom, I really use it in fills a lot.
however sometimes I just play a 4 piece, and that's nice to, but not whole the time.

I misread the question. I thought it said what is your ideal kit.
I voted 7++.
Oops.
I actually play on a 5 piece.
In a couple of years though, I'll have an 9+ piece double bass set. Delites :D

althought I now have a 5-piece, I voted 3 or less...because as I mentioned in a couple other threads recently, I rarely ever use the toms and am seriously considering breaking it down to a 2 or 3-piece kit.

I voted 6-7 even though I play on a 5 now. I'm going to be getting another tom and another snare soon. I also enjoy a good ol' 4 piece just as much though.

4 peice, i feel like i'm moving my arm to an un-nessacary angle to reach the ride on 5 peice set-ups, and i rarely use the tom where my ride goes in the 4-peice
(i'm well aware the pictures i posted of my kit are in fact in 5 peice set-up)

Mine is different.
Personally i play a 6 peice (with a single pedal, i noticed you didnt put that on the list:mad: ), but with my band i play a 3 or 4 peice set up (depending on the set list).

I play either a 4 piece setup, or a 5-piece with my 13" to the left of my hats.

01-08-2006, 03:12 PM
5 toms, 2 different bass drums, and 1 - 2 snare drums for when I'm at home just jamming with my self.
For band practices, I like a five piece (8, 10, 14, 20, 14) but usually end up just using a four piece.

Either:
2 rack
2 floor
1 bass
1 snare
or
3 rack
1 floor
1 bass
1 snare
or
2 rack
2 floor
1 bass
1 snare
4 concert toms
--------------
10 peices! I'm aiming for that, but right now I have a 7 piece.

13" tom
14" snare
18" floor tom
22" bass drum

16" Zildjian Z Custom Rock Crash
16" Zildjian Z Custom Medium Crash
14" Zildjian ZBT Hihats (sound really good considering theyre ZBT's)
14" Zildjian ZXT China
20" Sabian B8 Ride (crap and a half, getting an A 20" Ping Ride soon)
So I guess that makes it a 4 piece :p

If you count everything I've got, it's 10 drums with 2 kicks. But I don't really play double bass as you would imagine, sometimes I just turn 90 degress and play on the left side of my kit with the second kick. But when I play out, I usually downsize to a 4, sometimes down to a 2 or 3(0 or 1 toms).

Ah ill try to get pics up as soon as I can. My band has been playing gigs although ive been using other bands sets because only 1 set is allowed altogether so the last gig I played I had to use the other band's drummer's Pearl forum. But when my camera is fixed ill post pics.

I voted 7++ with double bass, since that is what my kit looks like when fully setup. Only every 6-7 months is that monster up and running though... Mostly my setups range anywhere between 4-piece and 7/8-piece with double pedal (so not double bassdrum)

I have a 7 piece single bass set-up.
Mapex M Birch
22" Bass
14" Snare
12", 13", 14" Rack toms
16" & 18" Floor toms
I hardly use the 13" tom. So i tend to just have the 12" and 14" mounted of to the left with the ride in place of the third rack tom.
GhostNote
01-09-2006, 10:42 AM
I put 'common' 4piece, but i play a 20x8 kick, 10x6 tom, 13x11 floor tom and 13x5.5 kit, with 13" hats and an 18" ride. which is uncommon to say the least...
Obelisk
01-09-2006, 12:46 PM
2 kicks - 18" + 22"
2 racks - 10" + 12"
2 floors - 14" + 16"
2 snares - 14" + 13"
I like the optioins I have, can pull a neet little jazz kit out, standard rock set, or kick-arse dbl kicker.
Joonas P
01-09-2006, 02:39 PM
Right now it's a 4-piece, but I'll soon add a 10" piccolo to that. Would that count as an extra piece?
What if you played a 6-piece double bass set or a single bass setup with 6 toms? There are no options for users with those setups..
Tama_Drums
01-09-2006, 04:17 PM
I really should have put an "other" option in that poll, I can see that now, sorry. But, since so many people have voted already, putting the "other" option in now would be pointless...
Joonas P
01-09-2006, 05:39 PM
True, changing the poll now wouldn't fix it since people have already voted. Just keep this in mind the next time you're making a poll, that's all. I should now go and try get some sleep again. Bye!

Uusually I play a regular 4 pc kit, however, the other day I got by two vistalite toms new heads and tuned up, so I'm using my Accent kick, an Accent 16x16, a vistalite 13x9 and 16x16.

So your standard 4 piece. It would be 5, but I don't like having both of my toms on top of my bass, so until I get a piece to put one of them on my cymbal stand, 4 piece it is.

Normally a 5pc. fusion: 9x10 10x12 11x14 toms, 18x22 bass 5.5x14 snare
My cymbal setup is 14" hats, 2 16" crashes, 20" ride, 8" splash and a 14" mini China.
For gigs, I'll leave one of the rack toms at home, and just use hats, ride, one crash and the mini China.
